    The Job

    The Sheriff's Department is hiring for an Information Systems Administrator to lead and manage a large and experienced technical team. This position will provide oversight and management of IT systems and applications, system upgrade and replacement projects, and associated change management. The incumbent will spearhead the enhancement of operations and improve efficiencies of existing IT programs, infrastructure, policies, and procedures.

    This position will develop information technology (IT) strategic and tactical plans; assist department managers in developing technology strategies to achieve business goals; facilitate communication between County departments including the Innovation and Technology Department (ITD), business partners, and vendors; and develop technical staff to keep up with the changing technological environment. The position will manage the IT team through a group of subordinate supervisors.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment. Sheriff's employees must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. A valid California Class C Driver's License and proof of automobile liability are required at the time of appointment and must be maintained. County vehicles are available for use.

    Environment: The incumbent will be required to perform site visits to Sheriff's stations and facilities, as needed, including County detention facilities.

    Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience: Four (4) years of experience as an information technology (IT) manager or IT project manager and three (3) years of full-scope supervisory experience over IT staff . Supervisory experience may be concurrent with the management experience.

    -AND-

    Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Management, Computer Sciences, Business/Public Administration or a related field of study.

    Substitution: Experience leading IT operations for a law enforcement agency may substitute for the education requirement. Experience must have been obtained within the last five (5) years.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will possess the following experience:
    • Successful implementation of IT system replacement projects
    • Proven ability to facilitate IT change management
    • Strong leadership skills, with ample supervisory experience and team succession planning
    • Interpreting law enforcement legislation and development of IT solutions to facilitate reporting requirements
    • Knowledgeable in IT risk assessment and development of security policies and protocol
