JOB SUMMARY JOB SUMMARY Plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in the maintenance and construction of the City's electrical distribution system; monitors and provides for the safety of work crews; operates and maintains various types of work equipment and tools; prepares and maintains crew records and documentation; responds to public inquiries and complaints; and supervises assigned personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Conducts a variety of staffing and personnel functions:
- Evaluates and approves employee's time sheets.
- Evaluates and approves Employee's time off.
- Hires, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.
- Provides staff training regarding customer relations, safety practices, climbing/pole framing techniques, and transformer hook up process.
- Assigns work duties and monitors the quality of work performed by staff.
- Monitors and ensures work is conducted in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with established electrical principles.
- Assist the Manager in routine daily duties and functions as assigned.
- Perform the duties of the Distribution Manager when the Manager is absent.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Directs and oversees the building and repair of electrical lines:
- Receives, processes, and prioritizes job orders; schedules related work.
- Organizes materials and equipment required for jobs; monitors and ensures work tools are safely and properly maintained.
- Prepares daily time and vehicle reports for assigned work crew.
- Inspects and monitors job sites for unforeseen safety hazards.
- Responds to and addresses public inquiries and complaints.
Provides 24/7 emergency call-out response as scheduled; responds to power outages and/or other emergency situations; coordinates the placement of response personnel in designated areas; facilitates the timely restoration of power to utility customers.Fills in for Distribution Manager as needed.Assists other City departments with tree trimming, placement of heavy objects, and yearly neighborhood cleanup projects.Miscellaneous:
- Participates in the City's Safety Coach Program.
- May serve as a Member to organizations that directly or indirectly reflect Safety and Work Practices of SMEU.
DECISION MAKING - This position provides training and guidance to work crew personnel.
- Works under the general direction of the Department Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum ten (10) years electric distribution line experience, including four (4) years' experience working as a SMTXU Lineworker or Senior Lineworker.
- Must maintain a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess a valid Texas Class (A) Commercial Driver's License with a standard vehicle or obtain one within 90 days of employment if out of state.
- Basic computer skills to check emails and enter time worked.
- Must be able to lawfully report to duty within one (1) hour for emergency calls.
- Must respond to calls for assistance with power outages on nights and weekends within one (1) hour.
- Must live within one (1) hour of the City limits of San Marcos as determined by google maps.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision and hearing constantly; standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling and balancing frequently; sitting, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing to heights over thirty-five (35) feet high, talking and foot controls occasionally; crawling rarely.
Working conditions can involves exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment/vehicles, high/low voltage electrical systems, hazardous chemicals/materials, wildlife, working at heights or confined spaces.
