    Who We Are:
    The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $885 million and 2,162 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing and contracting, ISD is the County's trusted partner and provider of choice.

    The Opportunity:
    We are pursuing a qualified candidate to fill a Pest Control Working Supervisor position in the Custodial and Landscaping Division. The Pest Control Working Supervisor supervises and participates in the work of a pest eradication and control crew.

    The one position allocable to this class works under the general administrative supervision of a section manager and is responsible for supervising subordinates who are responsible for the full range of inspection of County buildings and the immediate extermination of a variety of insects, rodents, vertebrate, or invertebrate pests. The incumbent is required to utilize demonstrated knowledge of the chemical and environmental principles of pesticide use and working knowledge of the principles of inspection, the methods, materials, and equipment utilized in the manufacture, distribution, and application of pesticides. In addition to performing supervisory duties, the position allocated to this class is also required to perform duties of a Pest Exterminator. The position is distinguished from the position of Pest Exterminator by its responsibility as a working leader of a crew of employees engaged in the eradication and control of insects, pests, and rodents in County facilities.

    Essential Job Functions

    Works with and inspects the work of employees performing the eradication and control of insects, rodents, and other pests in County buildings.
    Assigns work to subordinates, maintains time cards, and prepares performance evaluations and appraisals of promotability for review.

    Monitors the compliance of subordinates with approved safety practices such as the wearing of protective clothing and face masks and the use of approved pest control materials and equipment.

    Trains employees in pest control procedures, methods, and preventive pest control programs; reviews and evaluates the work of crew of Pest Exterminators and others providing guidance and counsel in work methods and procedures.

    Maintains comprehensive records of all inspections, work completed, eradication method utilized, and remedial actions taken for each job and prepares miscellaneous work reports.

    Orders and issues necessary equipment and materials, including poison, baits, insecticides, tank sprayers, and traps; evaluates the effectiveness of pest exterminating materials and equipment, and arranges for the repair or replacement of old or damaged equipment.

    Obtains appropriate transportation for equipment and crews and directs them to the job sites.

    Performs the duties of a Pest Exterminator and performs the most difficult or complex inspections and exterminations that require conducting examinations of cramped, confined, or irregular areas or inspections that require bending, stooping, or crawling to obtain access to or to more closely inspect areas suspected of infestation.
    Utilize available computer applications to schedule and monitor services, as well as manage inventory control.

    Requirements

    Requirements to Qualify

    Two (2) years of experience at the level of the Los Angeles County class of Pest Exterminator*.

    Licenses:
    **Structural Pest Control Field Representative (Branch 2) or Structural Pest Control Operator (Branch 2) License issued by the State of California Structural Pest Control Board.

    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job related-essential functions.

    Special Requirement Information:
    * Experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Pest Exterminator is defined as performing journey level*** work in eradication and control of insects and rodents or vertebrate or invertebrate pests.

    **Applicant's MUST attach a copy of the Structural Pest Control Field Representative (Branch 2) or Structural Pest Control Operator (Branch 2) License issued by the State of California Structural Pest Control Board to their application at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days from application filing. Applications submitted without the required documentation will be rejected as incomplete.

    ***Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.

    Physical Expectations:
    3 - Moderate. This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    Desirable Qualifications
    Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess DESIRABLE qualifications in excess of the Selection Requirements.
    • Branch 1 and/or Branch 3 license(s) issued by the State of California Structural Pest Control Board.
    • Experience beyond the selection requirements in the eradication and control of insects and rodents or vertebrate or invertebrate pests at the journey level.
    • Experience supervising.
    • Experience utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, TEAMS, and Power BI.

    Our Assessment Process:
    First, meet our requirements above. After that, our process includes an evaluation of the candidate's training and experience based on application information, desirable qualifications, and the supplemental questionnaire weighted at 100%.

    Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on assessment to be added onto the list of eligible candidates on the Eligible List.

    Eligibility Information:
    The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the assessment will be placed on the Eligible List in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months following the date of promulgation. Passing this examination and being placed on the Eligible List do not guarantee an offer of employment.
    Special Information:
    Shift - 5/40 work schedule. Appointees may be required to work weekends and/or after hours to perform specialized interior services while employees are out of the facility.
