    Introduction

    The City of Scottsdale is looking for a highly creative and energetic communications specialist to market and promote Community Services special events and programs. The communications specialist ideally blends strong writing, communication and social media skills to tell Scottsdale's stories and promote content across multiple channels. Make an immediate impact in the community and be challenged while having fun.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $31.63.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
    • Preferred: An Associate's degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, multimedia production or a related field from an accredited educational institution.
    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.


    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Understands client projects, goals and priorities, identifies the right audiences and reach them with the right message and the right tools.
    • Interacts with citizens engaged with the City via social media and traditional communications.
    • Suggests, creates and publishes content aligned with the editorial calendar and department priorities.
    • Works in the development, production and delivery of department publications, including newsletters, e-newsletters, emails, fliers, posters, calendars, scripts and other marketing support materials.
    • Develops articles, social media posts and other publicity materials for distribution to employees and the public.
    • Plans, executes and measures communication campaigns.
    • Provides support to internal teams who require new or revisions to existing communications.


    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    • Most work is performed in a normal City office environment. Lift and carry office materials up to 30 pounds.
    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, telephone, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
    • Travel to/from meetings and various City locations.
    • Work evening and weekend hours as needed.

    PLEASE NOTE:Years of experience are based on a work schedule of 2,080 hours per year for full-time positions and 1,040 hours per year for part-time positions, and while work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis, depending upon the job classification, education may not be substituted for work experience.
