    The Opportunity!
    The Business Process Consultant position will play a critical role in the Signs and Markings Division ( SMD ) of the Transportation and Public Works Department. SMD is responsible for the installation and maintenance of thousands of transportation-related assets in the City of Austin, including traffic signs, crosswalks, and long line road markings. This is achieved using both in-house field crews and external contractors, and supported by a small team of professional-level staff conducting project coordination, contract management, and geospatial analysis, among other activities. In close coordination with the Division Manager, Project Manager, and Program Manager, this individual will analyze and enhance SMD’s data and asset management processes to ensure and improve data integrity. They will work with other TPW divisions and other COA departments to ensure SMD processes are integrated and that systems are in place to use and rely on the data/information. Other potential work tasks may include assisting in process enhancements related to inventory and material usage, workflow and scheduling, public records requests and council-related communication, and more. The ideal candidate will have excellent project/process management skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Analyze current data management workflows and identify areas for improvement.
    • Develop and implement data standards, processes, and quality control measures.
    • Collaborate with field staff, supervisors, and stakeholders to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
    • Maintain and update GIS datasets related to traffic signs and pavement markings.
    • Use data insights to support decision-making and enhance operational efficiency.
    • Prepare reports and dashboards to communicate asset management trends and performance metrics.

    $33.49 - $42.71 per hour

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience with various data visualization tools plus experience or interest in GIS and/or PowerBI for geospatial analysis and performance tracking/reporting.
    • Experience turning data into information.
    • Ability to provide thorough analysis and recommendations to upper management on performance measures, process efficiencies, and quality control.
    • Ability to effectively make recommendations to Division Manager on organizational changes needed to maximize output by utilizing appropriate staff, resources, and/or contracts.
    • Experience working with process mapping and improvement methodologies.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

    Leads multiple process improvement teams Develops project work plans, project management and periodic assessment Facilitates the development of stakeholder analysis and communication plans for process improvement teams Identifies, collects, and researches to complete data analysis Makes recommendations to project teams and recommends organizational change utilizing appropriate talent Advises process leaders and team leaders in defining/identifying key measurers and setting performance targets Develops and improves models and methodologies for the department Reviews and critiques the work of functional team staff Communicates project and program information to all levels of the organization

    City Government
