    The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating, and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services.     Position Duties

    Duration of Assignment: Approximately 12 weeks starting February 2025.

    Salary Information: The Public Works Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) part-time unbenefited Undergraduate/Graduate Student Intern in the City Facilities Architectural Services Division. Salary ranges for this classification are:

    Student Intern Salary Range - $15.27 - $21.66/hourly (unbenefited)

    Graduate Student Intern Salary Range - $19.62 - $28.98/hourly (unbenefited)

    This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

    About the City Facilities Architectural Services Division Internship:

    The City Facilities Architectural Services Division Intern will be assigned to assist for the following projects: HHPZ and Microgrid Project (Solar, BESS, Generator-Ready, and Microgrid), Electronic Billboard at Convention Center, CPA, Tech Museum, Market Street Garage, and San Carlos/2nd Street Garage

    Minimum Qualifications

    Undergraduate Student Intern: Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in an undergraduate program.

    Graduate Student Intern: Completion of a bachelor’s degree and current enrollment in a master’s degree program from an accredited college or university.

    Licenses & Certificates: Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing the operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California may be required for some positions.

    Other Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies, as demonstrated in past and current employment history. Desirable qualifications for this position include:

    · Enrolled as an Electrical and/or Computer Engineering undergraduate/graduate student in an accredited college or university.

    · Knowledge and ability to use computers and its related applications.

    · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others.

    · Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.

    · Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

    Selection Process

    Part-time positions(less than 40 hours per week) are required to participate in the City’s PTC 457 Deferred Compensation Plan per Federal regulations. Employees are required to contribute 3.75% of gross earning and the City contributes a matching amount of 3.75%. The funds contributed by the City are 100% vested upon initial deferral and will be held in in a stability of principal investment. This plan is in lieu of social security and does not include any healthcare benefits or contributions.

    Part-time employees may elect to contribute additional retirement savings through the City’s Voluntary 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. Additional Information on both plans can be found on the City’s website.
