    Requirements

    MOS Code: None

    Education and Experience : A High school diploma or GED or higher. Must have 500 hours of Lifeguarding experience. Must be 18 years of age or older.

    Licenses and Certificates : Current American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (ARC), and Lifeguard Management certifications by time of hire.

    Physical Requirements : Mobility within a swimming pool environment; must participate in rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning.

    General Purpose

    Under general supervision, to oversee the duties and responsibilities of the lifeguard staff to ensure patron safety, effective surveillance, and supervise assigned staff in the absence of the pool manager.

    Typical Duties

    Monitors swimming pool and surrounding area to enforce safety rules and regulations; cautions swimmers about unsafe swimming practices; rescues swimmers using necessary lifesaving techniques; administers minor first aid; assist in accounting for cash handling procedures and reports.

    Ensure proper operating condition of all equipment and facility and swimming pool water meets health standards. Inspects swimming pool equipment to ensure it is safe and in working order. Performs minor adjustments and maintenance to the swimming pool's filtration and chlorinating systems; and provides maintenance support (chemical tests, maintenance order requests) as needed. Cleans pool, pool area, and grounds and ensures pool gets vacuumed. Maintains a clean facility, including bathrooms; and assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies.

    Maintains communication with aquatics administrative personnel concerning pool operations. Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned personnel. Trains assigned swimming pool personnel. Assists in presenting safety briefings to the public and other organizations. Assists in the scheduling and coordinating of aquatics programs. Ensures lifeguard staff maintain a high level of swimming fitness.

    Informs Pool Manager when supplies are needed and if equipment needs repair. Checks all gates and doors at closing time. Makes sure all water rescue equipment is properly maintained and ready for use in an emergency.

    Supervising proper and timely lifeguard rotations and staff breaks during public operating hours. Supervise staff enforcing policies and procedures. Carry out all duties as assigned by the pool manager. Perform related management duties as assigned by the pool manager.

    The starting salary for this position is $16.70 per hour.

    Note: This is a part-time, unclassified position.
