DESCRIPTIONThe Long Beach Police Department currently has openings for the position of Community Program Technician. This is a part-time permanent position and a unique opportunity to join one of the nation’s finest and most diverse Police Departments.
This position performs a variety of non-hazardous support functions for the Long Beach Police Department, which include community outreach, interacting with the public on the phone and in person, along with clerical support for the department. Part-Time Community Program Technicians will be scheduled to work approximately 20-30 hours per week.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Outreach to the community regarding crime trends and safety tips.
- Surveillance video canvassing and retrieval.
- Provide case status updates to victims via telephone.
- Prepare and send letter correspondence to victims, witnesses, and other parties as needed.
- Review surveillance camera and BWC footage as needed to support investigations.
- Access confidential law enforcement databases and retrieve information as needed.
- Utilize internal computer systems to support investigations and community outreach, type and file reports.
- Obtain crime information from victims and witnesses.
- Assist with clerical duties.
- Package and wrap-up cases that do not require follow-up.
- Assist in reviewing PRA and PD Records requests (Final approval would sworn personnel).
- Assist in reviewing evidence destruction (Final approval would sworn personnel).
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as needed.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years full-time professional experience providing technical support for the delivery of programs, activities, and services. College education in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- A valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and evenings.
- Ability to:
- Learn, interpret, retain, and communicate technical and complex information, terminology, policies and procedures related to grant programs and compliance.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Work independently and/or as part of a team.
- Work effectively with a wide variety of people by consistently exercising tact, good judgment and a pro-active, problem-solving focused communication style.
- Operate office equipment including computers, printers and copiers as well as the word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, database and program specific applications.
- Type and enter data accurately.
