Fresno County Sheriff's Office is offering exciting career opportunities for eager and enthused individuals interested in becoming a
Community Service Officer with a focus on victim advocacy.
Under general supervision, the
Community Service Officer performs a variety of law enforcement support work, security-related duties, and other related work for the Sheriff's Office. In addition, incumbents may be assigned to serve as a Court Attendant to assist Sheriff Deputies in maintaining public security and general administrative support functions within the Court Services Unit.
The current vacancy is in victim advocacy, working with victims of domestic violence. The selected candidate will collaborate with community organizations such as the Marjaree Mason Center, coordinate with first responders to provide resource materials to victims, train officers on available resources, and engage in other related activities.
Experience working with domestic violence victims is preferred for this position.
Note : The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur. T he eligible list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill extra help positions throughout the county. Individuals selected for extra help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules. Temporary (extra-help) positions are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked, are not entitled to benefits, do not obtain permanent status, and serve at the will of the department head.
APPLICANTS MUST BE WILLING TO WORK OVERTIME IF NECESSARY AND SHIFTS AS ASSIGNED INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.
As a condition of employment, candidates must undergo and pass a polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis examination and a thorough background investigation (background materials for failed candidates are retained for three years). Background investigations include employment/credit histories, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified.
This classification is in MEDICAL GROUP II - Moderate Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require moderate physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) 10-25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Generally, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved.

Experience : One (1) year of full-time, paid public contact experience. Experience working with domestic violence victims is preferred.

OR Education : Completion of thirty (30) semester units of course work from an accredited college or university accepted within the United States college or university system.
License : Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License.
Possession of a current First Aid/CPR Certificate must be obtained prior to the completion of the probationary period and maintained thereafter if assigned to function as a Court Attendant.

SELECTION PROCESS: Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for the process listed below:
- Written Examination - If required, the written examination will be offered in an online format. Please indicate on the supplemental questionnaire if you have the ability to complete an online examination.
- Certify Without Examination - In instances where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to the number of qualified applicants the Department is entitled to receive under Personnel Rule 4212, the competitive examination process will be waived and the names will be certified without an examination.
Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to 12 months) and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
