The City of Irvine seeks a seasoned professional to join Development Engineering in the Public Works & Sustainability department as a Senior Civil Engineer. The position will be responsible for managing multiple projects that directly impact the department's goal to deliver capital improvements throughout the City.
Your Impact- Provide leadership and technical oversight to other engineers.
- Assist in the supervision of section staff and activities, including budget development/monitoring and employee performance assessment.
- Perform contract management duties such as preparation of scope of work, contract budget monitoring, and contract vendor selection process.
- Administer and coordinate the City's plan review process including tracking and managing consultant plan check services contracts.
- Perform highly advanced technical reviews of plans, specifications, studies, and reports for the construction, alteration and/or maintenance of roads, storm drainage systems, sidewalks, bikeways, traffic intersections, signing/striping, traffic signalization, or other related projects.
- Administer and manage multiple construction and design contracts for various Capital Improvement projects.
- Administer and coordinate special programs such as Flood Insurance, Water Quality, Bridge Maintenance, and Special District programs.
- Process final subdivision maps, including lot line adjustments and lot mergers.
- Interact and communicate with various City departments and staff, contractors, utilities, agencies, and other stakeholders.

Minimum Qualification- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Five years of professional civil engineering experience.
- A valid California driver's license
- Professional Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California is required.
Best Fit- Two years of experience working on Capital Improvement projects. Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and experience with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) permit process is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and experience in reviewing engineering plans and reports associated with capital improvement projects, land development projects, and public utility projects.
- Working knowledge of critical regulations and standards at the local, state, and federal levels, such as the Work Area Traffic Control Handbook (WATCHBOOK), California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD), California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) regulations, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook).
- Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication.
