    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years of related experience, including three (3) years of experience which were in a supervisory capacity.
    • Experience may substitute for education for up to four (4) years
    • Graduation with a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.

    Position Description:
    The Street and Bridge Operations, Infrastructure Operations Division, is hiring for a Transportation Division Manager. This role leads a division responsible for internal business support activities for a 230+ staff construction team. The position provides strategic and operational leadership to a team of managers and staff across coordination, consultation, training, administrative, and financial functions. Responsibilities include facilitating resource allocation, workgroup coordination, performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality support aligned with our mission to “maintain vital infrastructure to keep Austin moving.”

    Essential Employee:
    This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

Decisions on assigned selection may be made at the time of hire based on the business needs of the department.

    Pay Range
    $48.38 - $62.90

    8am to 4:30pm (flexible; limited planned telework)
    This position will be essential and may be required to work during emergency response, nights, weekends, and extended hours.

    • Experience consulting for and/or organizing construction activities for a large organization.
    • Experience designing, monitoring, communicating, and coaching others on operating and capital budgets.
    • Experience scoping, designing, launching, communicating, and implementing complex cross-agency initiatives.
    • Experience designing and monitoring performance measures for large organizations across operational, financial, administrative and logistical activities.
    • Experience creating visual presentation material and giving presentations to a variety of audiences to include public speaking in virtual and physical environments.


    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    Provides leadership, strategic direction, and management for a division or unit within the Transportation Department. Develops and monitors budgets and implements strategies to maintain the financial well-being of the division, department, and City. Develops and implements short- and long-range goals and objectives. Evaluates, develops, improves, and promotes the division’s business plan. Manages operations of the division with other City divisions, departments, or outside entities to ensure continuity of the transportation services delivered by the division and department to the community. Ensures division objectives are met while managing changes to equipment, budget, and personnel to meet department needs. Evaluates operational efficiencies and cost effectiveness, and develops and implements improvement strategies. Administers and develops program activities and provides technical expertise to division staff, other agencies, the community, and program participants. Recommends, develops, or modifies program procedures, guidelines, standards, and policies to achieve program goals and objectives and determines changes that need to be made in program policies and procedures based on feedback from customers, officials, service providers, and community groups.

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government.
