    The Job

    Begin your career with San Bernardino County as a Survey Technician Trainee* and embark on a path of growth and development in the field of land surveying. The Department of Public Works, County Surveyor's Office, is seeking motivated individuals for entry-level positions that will provide hands-on experience and training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), field surveys, office work, and right-of-way assignments.

    As a Survey Technician Trainee*, incumbents will assist in various tasks, such as supporting survey crews, reviewing maps, performing measurements, and executing calculations for construction, topographic, and boundary surveys. You will also gain experience in identifying right-of-way boundaries and maintaining parcels, all while working under close supervision and guidance.

    The resulting list may be used to fill vacancies as they occur throughout the Department.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Training Period/Promotion: Engineering Technician Trainees may be promoted to Engineering Technician II upon meeting minimum requirements and receiving satisfactory job evaluations; Trainees must be promoted or terminated within 12 months.

    Background: Incumbent must successfully complete a background check prior to appointment.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County is required, for which a County vehicle may be provided. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced by the individual providing the transportation and maintained during the course of employment.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education: Successful completion of high school level (or higher) coursework in algebra, geometry, OR trigonometry.

    Desired Qualifications

    College coursework in civil engineering, construction technology, GIS, geomatics, land surveying, or a closely related field is highly desirable.
    Job experience demonstrating strong attention to detail, particularly in tasks requiring precision such as performing measurements, reviewing maps, or cross-referencing maps with their location on the ground, is highly valued.

    Selection Process

    Examination Procedure : There will be an online examination covering Engineering Technician Math Concepts . Candidates invited to test will be provided additional information about the exam once scheduled.
