  • Job Description

    The City of Irvine seeks an experienced, highly organized, and diplomatic individual to serve as a Program Coordinator with the Senior Services team. Reporting to the Community Services Supervisor, the ideal candidate will be a professional in the aging services field with experience in program planning, coordinating, organizing, and administering older adult programming and customer service operations. The Coordinator must be able to work independently, as part of a team, and without side partner.

    The City of Irvine has three community centers for older adult programming and private reservations after 6:00 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. Our center's primary function is to provide social, recreational, and wellness programs for individuals 50 and over, including health, fitness, and wellness services.

    This recruitment will supplement an existing Eligibility List for the Community Services Program Coordinator position, which will expire on 12/31/24 . If you are already on an Eligibility List, please reapply to demonstrate interest and update your application information.

    Your Impact
    • Develops, schedules, plans, organize, coordinates, and implements programs for adults 50 and over.
    • Schedules, trains, supervises, and reviews work of extended and part-time staff who lead programs and work with volunteers. Prioritizes and reviews work, evaluates employee performance, and provides guidance and training in program area.
    • Oversees programs operations and assists in the supervision of facility operations. Develops, administers, and monitors program budgets. Purchases/requisitions supplies and equipment. Collects program and services fees/donations and maintains related financial records.
    • Supervises customer service staff and provides coverage/support. Oversees daily front desk operations, including program registrations, donations, and direct program inquiries.
    • Researches, prepares, and evaluates various narrative and statistical reports, spreadsheets, forms, correspondence, lists, rosters, and schedules.
    • Collaborates with other divisions and location non-profit organizations for program offerings and special event support.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in recreation, gerontology, human services, recreation, public administration, or a field related to the assigned area.
    • Two years' experience in recreation/social services programing or community facility operation, or combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Possess, or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license.
    • Required to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within three months of employment.
