    Salary for this position is $17.50 per hour

    SUMMARY OF DUTIES

    Youth Apprenticeship program for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Facilities Maintenance division. The youth apprenticeship programs offer young individuals the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience and training in various disciplines within the facilities maintenance division. Under the guidance of a supervisor/mentor the youth apprentice will receive training and gain skills and knowledge in technical trades such as welding, electrical work, HVAC maintenance and more.

    The length of the program will vary from 12-24 months depending on the current grade at start of program, licensing, and certificate opportunities.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • On the job training and educational activities to develop skills and knowledge in facilities maintenance disciplines.
    • Learns and adheres to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
    • Assists technicians in performing routine maintenance, repairs, and installations.
    • Follows instructions and guidance from supervisor/mentor.
    • Maintains accurate records of training activities.

    Learning, based on the apprenticeship:
    • Learn how to read diagnostic meters and gauges
    • Learn how to wire basic electrical devices - switches, outlets and fixtures
    • Learn the unique differences in electrical applications - residential, commercial, industrial and specialized
    • Learn to apply fire suppression measures in case of emergencies
    • Learn to mix protective coating and apply it to welding parts
    • Learn to apply fire suppression measures in case of emergencies
    • Learn to install and change duct work on both residential and commercial premises
    • Learn to solder and braze piping connections
    • Learn to install hangers holding duct work, wires, line work, and condensation drains
    • Learn to change thermostats, evaporator coils, and compressors

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
    • Applicants for the Youth Apprenticeship program must be enrolled as a junior or senior at one of the participating high schools.
    • Applicants must also obtain recommendations from the teacher of the qualifying program as well as character reference from non-school personnel.
    • Must have a valid US Drivers license.
    • Youth Apprentices will have the opportunity to apply for a Apprentice position upon successful completion of Youth Apprenticeship program and graduation from a participating high school.

    Special Requirements
    • Work-based Learning students will work a maximum of 20 hours per week; The 20 hour per week schedule will fall between 7am and 7pm, Monday-Friday.
    • Hours may increase during the summer months to a 40-hour workweek.
    • The Airport environment is safety sensitive and requires that all applicants undergo a drug screen, fingerprinting background check, and pass a Security Threat Assessment.
