    FILING DEADLINE:
    Recruitment is scheduled to close Monday, November 25, 2024 at 5:00pm OR when the first one-hundred (100) qualified applications are received; whichever occurs first.

    The City of Santa Fe Springs seeks applicants for the position of Heritage Park Ranger . This is an hourly, at-will, non-benefited position with approximately 20-25 hours per week.

    POSITION PURPOSE:
    Under direct supervision, patrols and provides security of the park grounds and buildings at both Heritage Park and Clarke Estate; performs enforcement of park use rules and regulations and crime prevention work; participates and provides educational park services; provides information to the public; assists with the implementation of permitted events and public special events.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
    Receives supervision from a Community Services Program Coordinator, Supervisor, Manager, or Director.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
    None.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    A. Held in Common: Supports the Mission of the City and its Elected and Appointed Officials.Exhibits loyalty to the City and its representatives.Provides courteous and timely service to the public as the ultimate employer.Works cooperatively with other City employees.Exhibits integrity and displays ethical behavior. B. Essential Job Specific Duties: Provides security of the park grounds and buildings at both Heritage Park and Clarke Estate.Patrols assigned areas by foot and electric vehicle.Assists with supervision and enforcement of Park rules and operation policies.Gives information and directions to the public; and participates in crowd control during public and private events.Speaks to large groups. C. Other Job Specific Duties: Prepares and assists in the preparation of incident and accident reports; takes photographs at scene of crime or accident; assists in preserving the evidence of accidents and/or incidents at the Park.Assists the public in understanding historical exhibits and park tours.Feeds birds and maintains Aviary.Inspects the park and Estate, and reports unsafe conditions and equipment.Oversees permit activities and special events.Set-up equipment and take down of permit activities and special events.Performs light maintenance work as required.Performs related duties as required.

    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

    • Utilize correct English, grammar, and syntax when conveying information.
    • Remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places.

    • Make sound judgments and take quick actions in emergencies.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    The following requirements generally demonstrate possession of the minimum requisite knowledge and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position. A typical way to obtain these would be:
    • High School Diploma or an equivalent certificate or diploma recognized by the State of California.
    • One (1) year experience interacting with the public.
    • A valid State of California driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
    • First Aid and CPR certification within three (3) months of employment.


    NEPOTISM POLICY:
    Relatives may be appointed regardless of the designation of full or part-time classification. Candidates with relatives employed by the City will be excluded from applying for a vacancy if one or more of the following criteria exist: 1) The appointment of a relative would place one in a supervisory capacity directly over the other 2) The appointment would create a situation in which it is conceivable personal gain for one could be obtained by the actions of the other 3) The appointment would create a situation where performance or non-performance of either would have a direct effect upon the performance of the other 4) The appointment would create a situation where the confidentiality of either could be compromised. Candidates with relatives employed by the City will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. "Relative" shall be defined as: mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandmother, grandfather, grandchild, spouse, domestic partner, step mother, step-father, step-sister, step-brother, stepchild and step grandchild.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
