Position Description
Provides advanced Hospice/Palliative professional services related to the diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients. Coordinates the delivery of clinical health care within a TDCJ Correctional institution, ensuring that the appropriate health care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion regardless of segregation status. Renders medical judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit according to TTUHSC Correctional Health Services Policies and Procedures, TDCJ Policies and Procedures, and National Commission on Correctional Health Care Standards.
Works under the general direction of the Regional/Unit Medical Director with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Receives general supervision from the Regional/Unit Medical Director.
Work is performed in a correctional institution and in contact with inmates. Additionally, work requires collaboration with the faculty and staff at TTUHSC.
Major/Essential Functions
This Hospice/Pallative care physician will provide onsite coverage at the Montford Regional Medical Facility located in Lubbock, Texas and will be responsible for the following:- Refers patients to medical specialists when appropriate and necessary, and coordinates medical care with said specialists.
- Utilizes the appropriate leadership skills in delegating and directing nursing staff.
- Provides an environment conducive to safety and security for patients, visitors, and employees.
- Assesses the risk to the patient and employee safely and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with approved and appropriate standards of patient care as well as the policies of TTUHSC and TDCJ-ID.
- Is responsible for providing Oncology medical care to the inmates of TDCJ. This includes taking an appropriate patient history, examination of patients, ordering labs or x-rays as clinically indicated, and planning and execution of treatment.
- Communicates with the Regional/Unit Medical Director regarding all medically related issues or problems in a prompt manner.

Required Qualifications
Current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners; current Drug Enforcement Agency and Texas Department of Public Safety controlled substances registration certificates.
