    (Job #543575) Student Services Professional III, Individualized Degree Plan, Student Support Program Coordinator, Salary Range: $5,276 - $7,517; Hiring Range: $5,276 - $5,540. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan permanent position with a one-year probationary period in General Studies.     Position Summary:

    The IDP Student Support Program Coordinator will join the Interdisciplinary Studies - Individualized Degree Plan (IDP), a program that offers students a flexible and customized degree pathway. Students in the program develop a unique degree plan that incorporates courses from multiple disciplines. In addition, a sequence of required core courses introduces students to interdisciplinary thinking and approaches to inquiry, and guides them in identifying and working towards their academic, career and lifelong learning goals. The program nurtures a culture of inclusion, support, and creativity that empowers students as they collaborate in the design of their education.

    The Individualized Degree Plan (IDP) Student Support Program Coordinator will work with minimal supervision under the direction of the IDP Director to design and manage student support structures, advising services, and program outreach and communication.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Coordinate Student Support Structures and Services Within the IDP Program:
    • Coordinate advising services for IDP students, working with IDP program faculty and leaders, faculty and program/department chairs across campus, and others such as Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Student Life/Orientation, Academic Advising Center, Learning Center, Testing Center, Student Disability Resource Center, Librarians and College advisors, etc.
    • Develop, and maintain a thorough knowledge of academic, internship, and credit for prior learning (CPL) policies and procedures, withdrawal counseling, retention, and student success initiatives both campus wide and those policies and procedures specific to the IDP program.
    • Coordinate the IDP approval process, loading of students’ major in DARS, course scheduling, internship, and credit for prior learning (CPL) processes.
    • Monitor student progress towards degree completion and regularly report out to students, program faculty, and the IDP Director.


    Serve as Lead Adviser in IDP Program:
    • Using a holistic approach, act as lead academic advisor for prospective and current IDP students.
    • Assess and adapt advising services to the needs of academically and culturally diverse students, including adult learners, fully online students, and students balancing work/family/school commitments.
    • Conduct meetings (individual as well as group) to advise students regarding scheduling, enrollment, academic progress, academic policies and procedures, and curriculum issues.
    • Help students to develop their individualized degree plans and build class schedules that align with their unique needs, interests, and goals.
    • Connect students with appropriate campus resources.
    • Advise students regarding policies and procedures, and any other questions that students may have regarding their academic records. Alert students to any possible issues and work with them to find potential solutions.


    Student Outreach, Instruction, and Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for the IDP program.
    • Provide information to potential students on program requirements, pre-requisites and transferability of prior work; work with prospective students to create preliminary degree plans.
    • Develop and facilitate in person and online student support courses, workshops, tutorials, social media communication, and orientations.
    • Develop outreach and informational materials, including the IDP Newsletter, social media communication, and other accessible resources for prospective and current students.
    • Participate in program outreach across campus and beyond.


    Other Duties As Assigned

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:

    Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.

    Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

    Demonstrated experience working effectively with a diverse population and a commitment and/or experience promoting and fostering a working (or learning) environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population. Demonstrated sensitivity to cross-cultural perspectives and experiences.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience:

    Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.

    A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

    Education:

    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience working with student advising or student support services.
    • Experience with online learners.
    • Ability to develop and maintain spreadsheets or databases for longitudinal data tracking.
    • Knowledge of common barriers to student success and experience with evidence-informed student support practices, including holistic, appreciative, and case-management advising approaches.
    • Knowledge of and ability to use social media products and programs.
    • Experience with the following software/platforms: PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Slate CRM, Canvas.
    • Experience working with degree audit systems.
    • Knowledge of California State University (CSU) academic policies.
    • A master's degree in counseling, psychology, student services or advising in higher education, social work of education or a directly related field.
