    Position Description
    Under direct supervision, supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments and materials. Provides assistance to faculty, residents and students in respective clinic in accordance with the State Dental Practice Act. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

    Major/Essential Functions
    • Gathers equipment and supplies in a timely manner for use during dental appointments.
    • Assists dentist or hygienist at chair side. Completes vital signs. Sets up for procedures.
    • Exposes and develops dental radiographs as ordered by the treating professional.
    • Maintain count on instruments, sharps and flammable liquids.
    • Infection Control. Cleans processor and sterilizer. Cleans and disinfects dental chairs, trays and all equipment.
    • Charting. Charts require documentation for each offender seen/treated in clinic.
    • Assists with daily clinic duties. Assists with clerical duties as needed, to include, register/discharge patients, create/close reminders as appropriate. Schedule appointments and lay-ins. Enter data in PTM module daily.
    • Collect dental sick call requests. Assure they are date/time stamped and initialed when received. Then assist dental hygienist with answering dental sick call requests to include, but not limited to, scanning, creating reminders, etc.
    • Assists with the completion of all dental monthly reports for Jordan and Baten Units
    • Assists with scanning of all required documentation.
    • Completes dental chart reviews on newly assigned offenders for both Jordan and Baten units for active treatment plans and dental levels of care assignments.

    Required Qualifications
    High School or equivalent. One (1) year of related experience or completion of an approved dental assistant course is required. Dental Assistant registry with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.
