    General Description and Classification Standards

    Provides support to nursing staff (RNs or LPNs) in performing tasks associated with screening detainees and in providing routine providing routine treatment services in a detention center clinic. This is a medical support position and certification/licensures may be required. Use of this class should be restricted to a medical clinic setting only and positions should exist only where nursing or other medical professional positions are also present and filled.

    Supervision Received

    Works under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse and follows standard procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

    Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

    High school diploma and completion of an approved course of study and qualifications as a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant. 1 year of work experience in medical/clinical support in an institutional or hospital setting with phlebotomy experience.

    Basic computer and software skills

    Preferred Education & Experience

    The minimum education requirements, plus 1 year of related work experience in a detention center, jail, or prison.

    Licensures and Certifications

    Certified by the appropriate organization or board to work as a nursing aide, medical assistant, clinical assistant, or related health discipline. BLS (Basic Life Support Certification)
