    Who We Are:
    The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $885M and 2,162 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing, and contracting, ISD is the County's trusted partner and provider of choice.

    The Opportunity:


    Delete The Divide is an initiative led by the County of Los Angeles to empower youth and young adults in underserved communities who are adversely impacted by the digital divide. Adversely communities are geographic areas within the County of Los Angeles where 20.1% to 100% of the households lack internet access. Partnerships have been established with public, private, academic, and community-based organizations to unify efforts in ensuring that members have direct access to training and support services in modern technologies.

    Position Responsibilities

    Works in conjunction with professional IT engineers to ensure that our organization's efforts to improve communities and quality of life continues uninterrupted.

    Essential Job Functions

    Provides support to systems customers and/or to departmental staff for a variety of information technology related issues including the identifying, tracking, documenting, researching, and resolving of basic problem calls.

    Serves as a liaison between field staff and centralized IT staff by answering questions, providing instructions and furnishing written materials, forms, and policies and procedures related to departmental and County IT systems.

    Responds to reported desktop related connectivity problems such as issuing or resetting customer passwords.

    Instructs systems customers on navigation and utilization of on-line computer related programs and procedures.

    Supports IT professionals by performing routine systems testing, including validating user manuals, procedures, and other instructional materials.

    Following established procedures, conducts acceptance testing on software tools.

    Assists in documenting Help Desk calls that require higher level research and investigation.

    Extracts and summarizes report data; compiles statistics, analyzes data, and prepares reports for management.

    Assists in the procurement, delivery/pick up and inventory control processes of departmental hardware, software and peripheral equipment , as needed .

    Coordinates IT training scheduling for departmental staff , as needed .

    A ssists in IT technical training of departmental users , as needed .

    A cts as lead to Information Technology Aides and other clerical personnel, as needed .

    A ssists in the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of information technology devices including personal computers, video display terminals, printers, cabling and other hardware, as needed .

    Requirements

    Requirements to Qualify

    One (1) year of experience providing assistance to professional information technology staff and providing routine customer related information systems related tasks at the level of Los Angeles County class of Information Technology Aide* AND recent or current participant in the Los Angeles County Delete the Divide program as a Technology Professional Intern I or higher.

    Special Information:
    Appointees will be required to work a Monday through Friday 5/40 work schedule.

    Special Requirement Information:

    *Experience at the level of the County of Los Angeles class of Information Technology Aide is defined as providing assistance to professional IT staff by performing routine information systems related tasks in a centralized Information Technology organization**.

    **Centralized Information Technology (IT) organization is defined as a unit or department that provides comprehensive IT services such as analysis, design, acquisition, development, implementation, maintenance, and/or support of information systems, under the direction or guidance of the organization’s Chief IT official.

    License:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Physical Expectations:

    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    This examination will consist of two (2) parts:

    Part I: Multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 80%, assessing:

    Part II: Multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 20%, assessing Knowledge of Information Technology Service Desk Skills (Troubleshooting, Start-Up Problems, Optimization, Network, etc.).

    THE MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

    Candidates must meet requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed onto the eligible list.

    Eligibility Information:

    You will move through the assessment process and if you pass, we will place your results on a list. We will then invite the highest scoring group to an interview. The eligible list of everyone who passed is valid for twelve (12) months.

    In lieu of traditional banding, an alternative banding procedure may be employed as a result of a special study sanctioned by the Department of Human Resources, consistent with Civil Service Rule 11.01(D).
