The Position
Napa County Health & Human Services Agency seeks a Social Services Aide to join its Child Welfare Services Division. The Social Service Aide is a paraprofessional class. The Social Service Aide assists Social Workers and Child Protective Services Workers by performing specifically designated tasks related to the programs and services of a public child welfare agency. The incumbent in this position will assist the Emergency Response unit by providing resources and referrals to clients, offering transportation support to community resources, delivering emergency goods and services, assisting in the investigation of suspected child abuse by gathering records and legal documents; and assisting with other tasks necessary to support Social Workers. The Social Service Aide differs from the Social Worker in that the former requires a lower level of skill and training than the level required of a professional Social Worker. B eing bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.
The list established by this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies up to one year. There is currently 1 (one) regular full-time vacancy.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreed Salary increases and Wintertime Off (WTO):
3.5% COLA increase effective 7/1/2025
3.5% COLA increase effective 7/1/2026
32.0 hours of Winter Time Off (WTO)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Education:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two (2) years of full-time experience providing social services in a public or private setting to disadvantaged adults or children;
OR
Education:
Sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units of college, including fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and one-half (22.5) quarter units in social welfare, social/human service, sociology, or other social or behavioral science*;
OR
A combination of education and comparable experience equivalent to two years of full-time experience which includes a minimum of fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and one-half (22.5) quarter units in social or behavioral science*. When combining education and experience; fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and one-half (22.5) quarter units equal six months of experience.
*Examples of social or behavioral science courses include: anthropology, criminal justice, economics, education, ethnic studies, history, human development, law, nursing, nutrition, philosophy, political science, psychology, public health, religion, social welfare, sociology, welfare, women's studies.
License or Certificate*
Possession of a valid driver's license.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent in this class must be willing to work after hours, evenings, weekends as required, at an out-station location or in a setting with other professionals integrated as a team.

Supplemental questions will be scored by the subject matter experts. Only the most qualified applicants from the scoring of the supplemental questions will be invited for an Oral Panel Interview. Only the most qualified candidates from the oral panel exam will be placed on the eligibility list and may be considered to fill positions for up to one year.

Napa County employees automatically become Disaster Service Workers. SALARY -
Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
