    The Position

    Job Appointment: Full time
    Work Schedule: 4 x 10-hour days Monday - Thursday
    Work Location: 664 N. Tillamook Street, Portland, OR, 97227-1807

    Position Summary

    Concrete Finishers perform a variety of skilled concrete finishing and allied trades work, including surface preparation, building concrete forms, structural reinforcement, materials preparation, masonry, and plastering.
    What you’ll get to do:
    • Utilize surveying equipment and layout area according to blueprints.
    • Saw cut spalls or damaged adjacent areas if needed.
    • Cut/Set forms and backfill as required.
    • Set grade stakes/nails with surveying equipment.
    • Set up and maintain proper/safe traffic control.
    • Muck chute/direct concrete driver safely.
    • Rake concrete to the top of the form.
    • Screed to grade and check with Smart level.
    • Bull float, Trowel/finish, Broom finish.
    • Use blueprints, smart level and surveying equipment.
    • Report daily accomplishments to the supervisor.
    Wage Information
    Entry: $37.10 per hour
    At Six Months: $40.27 per hour
    After one year: $41.47 per hour

    To Qualify

    The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

    Journey-level experience with concrete finishing, working at a highly skilled level and can be held responsible for directing others in performing such work. Knowledge of tools, materials, processes, and techniques of concrete finishing and masonry; concrete and reinforced concrete structures. Skill in constructing concrete forms, preparing areas for concrete placement, placing and finishing concrete, concrete reinforcement, and performing masonry work and tile setting; performing measurements and arithmetic computations including multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and conversions. Ability to learn and use safe working practices; maintain records; perform layout for concrete structures; communicate effectively; work effectively with coworkers in a diverse workforce, and respond appropriately to questions concerns from other employees and the public.
    Applicants must also:
    • Possess a valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record at the time of hire.
    • Submit a complete five-year court-certified Driver's Abstract of Driving Record (obtained at the applicant's expense) upon request.
    • Possess or obtain a class "A" CDL within 6 months from the date of hire (FREE in-house training available).
    • Take and pass a Pre-Hire employment exam.
    • Take and pass a Pre-employment drug test.

    STEP 2: Minimum Qualification Evaluation: Week of November 11th - Week of November 18, 2024

    • An evaluation of each applicant's training and paid and unpaid experience, as demonstrated in their resume and supplemental questions, weighted 100%.
    • Your résumé and responses to the supplemental questions will be the basis for our evaluation of your qualifications for this position. Incomplete or inappropriate information may result in disqualification.
    • You have 14 days from the notice of the minimum qualification evaluation results to let us know if you would like to review and discuss your evaluation result. Please read the City of Portland Administrative Rule 3.01 for complete information.
    • Additional evaluation may be required prior to establishment of the eligible list and/or final selection.
    STEP 3: Establishment of Eligible List: Week of November 25, 2024

    • Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the equally ranked eligible list. (Update if a Ranked list or other type of list is used)

    STEP 4: Selection (Interview): Early December

    • Hiring bureau will review and select candidates for an interview

    STEP 5: Offer of Employment: Mid/Late December

    • Some positions will require those offered employment to complete and sign a criminal background statement before being considered for employment. (Include if requires an in-depth background investigation.)

    STEP 6: Start Date: Early January

    • A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
