    THE CITY

    Culver City is a Charter City incorporated in 1917 and is a destination filled with outdoor cafes, unique shops, and galleries opening onto pedestrian-friendly boulevards. Culver City has a dedicated staff of approximately 700+ employees with an overall operating budget of over $368 million. The City provides a full range of municipal services including Fire, Police, Housing and Human Services, Planning & Development, Public Works, Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS), and Transportation.

    THE POSITION

    Subdrain Worker

    The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
    • Under supervision, performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance of the wastewater and storm water collection systems.
    • Unplugs wastewater main blockages and cleans wastewater mains of debris such as grease, sand, roots, and rocks using high pressure water jetting equipment or mechanical rodding equipment.
    • Cleans and flushes catch basins of debris assuring catch basins are capable of flowing properly.
    • Sets up work sites in a safe manner, includes the placement of traffic cones and the use of testing equipment to identify the presence of dangerous gases in confined spaces.
    • Inspects wastewater mains and laterals using camera or video equipment. Performs other related duties.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: High school diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of wastewater and storm water collection systems or other related fields.

    Notes:
    • Positions in this job classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug and alcohol regulation and are, therefore, subject to specific employment reference verifications.
    • Prior to appointment, candidates must pass a pre-employment medical examination, which will include a drug screen for detection of the presence of controlled/uncontrolled illegal substances. A positive pre-placement drug test, or a refusal to test, may result in rejection of the candidate.
    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
    • Possession of a valid California Class B driver's license and a tanker endorsement certificate.


    EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

    • Written Exam (weighed at 35%) : To evaluate ability to follow verbal and written instructions and knowledge of on-the-job safety. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of November 25, 2024).
    • Performance Exam (weighed at 35%) : To evaluate ability to perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance of the wastewater and storm water collection systems. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 16, 2024)
    • Oral Appraisal Interview (weighed at 30%) : To evaluate training, experience and personal qualities. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 16, 2024)
