DESCRIPTIONThe City of Long Beach’s Human Resources Department is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Administrative Intern to assist with social media outreach and recruitment support. This role is crucial in helping manage and expand our recruitment efforts, ensuring effective job postings and outreach while providing general administrative support to our HR team. The ideal candidate will be eager to gain hands-on experience in HR functions, social media management, and recruitment processes, contributing to a dynamic and supportive team environment.
Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1600 work hours over 12 months and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. Non-career employees are not typically eligible for health/dental/vision benefits; however, may be eligible for sick leave benefits.
THE DEPARTMENTThe Human Resources Department provides the full range of human resources support and services to 24 departments throughout the City. HR’s services include labor relations, employee relations, benefits, organizational development, talent acquisition, salary, and classification administration, HRIS administration, oversight of personnel investigations, EEO compliance, occupational health services, risk management, and safety compliance. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Assist in managing and posting job openings on social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook).
- Support the creation and execution of social media campaigns to attract potential candidates.
- Monitor social media channels and respond to inquiries related to job postings.
- Track and report on the effectiveness of social media recruitment efforts.
- Help with job fair registration and research.
- Assist in posting job openings on various job boards.
- Support job announcements sent to email distribution lists.
- Provide general administrative support, including managing calendars and scheduling meetings.
- Assist with data entry and maintenance of HR records and databases.
- Assisting with data and data analytics for a variety of special projects.
- Help prepare reports and presentations related to recruitment activities and social media performance.
- Aid in managing LinkedIn Recruiter and other recruitment tools.
- Support the Talent Acquisition help desk phone line and email inquiries.
- Assist with tracking onboarding surveys and related tasks.
- Collaborate on special projects to support the Talent Acquisition team.
- Provide general support to HR team members as needed.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a major in public administration, political science, business administration, human resources management, or related fields from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (proof required). OR
- Recently graduated from an undergraduate program (within one year of application submission) from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (proof required).
- Valid motor vehicle operator license. (Required to obtain a California motor vehicle operator license within 6 months of employment if license is out of state. DMV K4 driver license information report required during onboarding if selected for position).
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS- Experience developing technical skills, including extracting data from various types of databases, inspecting data, and detecting missing or anomalous data using analytical and/or visual methods.
- Experience in spreadsheet software such as Excel and Sheets
- Experience with computer applications such as Adobe PDF, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel), Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
- Social media experience (i.e., linkedin, twitter, facebook, etc.).
- Experience posting employment opportunities on external job sites.
- Highly motivated self-starter, resourceful, and able to work independently.
