    The Position

    Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

    Under the direction of the Deputy and Division Administrator, this position manages the Food Distribution Program (FDP) in the Division of Food and Nutrition. This recruitment will be used to underfill a Social Services Program Specialist 3 position. Duties include managing and budgeting funding, supervising staff, extensive grant management and coordination, managing two state food warehouses and working with liaisons, community partners, and other agencies. The incumbent is also responsible for the state processing program, Child Nutrition Commodity Support Program, Nutrition Services Incentive Program, and multiple food security grants. The FDP is responsible for the food distribution to community partners and clients; program inventory management, including ordering product and reporting usage each month through the reporting system; and developing, revising, submitting state plans for programs, policies and procedures, internal regulations; collaborating with multiple organizations to reduce food insecurity; implementing new programs/funding; grow programs to increase access to food; participating in federal program compliance reviews; and representing the division and department in the community or at conferences.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing social services to clients or program development and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing medical assistance programs services or healthcare services to clients or program compliance and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes The ability to travel at least 25% of the time is required. Special Requirements This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
