    Job Description

    SALARY: $60,000.00 (firm)

    General Description and Classification Standards

    Responsible for providing hands-on business partner support to assigned operating unit, coordinating with Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) to provide solutions to client needs and in the implementation of HR initiatives, policies and procedures.

    Under the direction of Public Safety HR Director, Assistant Director & HR Manager, this position will carry out day-to-day HR functions. Serves as a resource to supervisors and staff to ensure the effective discharge of their duties and responsibilities.

    Supervision Received

    Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Works with HR Representatives to ensure the accurate and timely flow of personnel transactions from assigned operating unit.
    • May provide support to the Public Safety HR Director, Assistant Director & HR Manager by running reports to analyze and compile data identifying trends within operating unit.
    • Collaborates with Background & Recruiting on candidate tracking, candidate relationship management, offer development and on-boarding of new employees to assigned client group.
    • Leverages relationships with best practices to provide guidance to managers and supervisors when issues arise related to performance, disciplinary action or employee grievances.
    • Assists the HR Manager in providing coaching to leadership team to support leadership development, decision-making, human resources management, problem-solving and performance management.
    • Provide guidance to managers, supervisors and employees on interpretation and implementation of City Code, workplace policies and practices, and relevant federal and state laws and regulations.
    • Upon instruction from Director, Assistant Director, Labor Relations and/or HR Manager, provides support for investigations, collects and maintains information and documentation.
    • Maintain and manage departmental personnel physical and electronic records.
    • Skill in effectively communicating and interacting with management, employees and members of the general public.

    Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks. Applies organizational policies.

    Leadership Provided

    None. May oversee temporary or contract workers as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.
    • Fluency in laws and regulations related to HR (e.g. ADA, FMLA, Title VII).
    • Knowledge of two or more of the core functional areas of HR, i.e. talent management, compensation.
    • Strong customer and results orientation
    • Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with emotional or confrontational circumstances.


    Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
    • Associate ’ s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis)
    • 2 years’ experience in an HR role with exposure to recruiting, training, compensation, benefits, employee development or performance management.

    Preferred Education & Experience Licensures and Certifications
    • Bachelor ’ s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis)
    • 4 years’ experience in an HR role with exposure to recruiting, training, compensation, benefits, employee development or performance management.
