    The Position

    This recruitment is being conducted to fill two (2) full-time vacancies for the position of Building Maintenance Worker for the Property Management Division of the Public Works Department at Napa County. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited-term and extra help vacancies as they occur over the next 12 months.

The Property Management Division provides a safe, healthy environment for County employees and visitors.

    The Property Management team at Napa County consists of Custodians, Maintenance Workers, and Building Maintenance Workers series to provide a safe, healthy environment for County employees and visitors. The Building Maintenance Worker vacancies we have available will work at various locations across the county and must be willing to respond to emergencies after working hours, holidays, and on weekends as needed.

    The position itself requires skilled work in the maintenance, alteration, and construction of equipment and structures, and to perform related work as required under general supervision. A variety of tasks in the building trades will be assigned. A typical day could consist of finishing the tape, texture and paint of a newly constructed wall, or responding to hot/cold work orders from county employees, to installing a new pump motor on a boiler system.

    Four years of responsible experience in at least one of the following building trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or heating/air conditioning is required for this position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on technical skills in all construction trades and be able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Good communication and customer service skills are highly desirable.

    Position Requirements:
    A person employed in this position must be willing to respond to emergencies after working hours, holidays, and on weekends as needed. To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A desirable combination is:
    • Experience: Four years of responsible experience in at least one of the following building trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or heating/air conditioning.
    • Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to ensure the ability to read or write at the level required for successful job performance.
    • License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.*

      *Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

    Disaster Service Workers:
    Napa County employees automatically become Disaster Service Workers.     SALARY -
    Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
