    Pay Range: $30.80/hr. - $34.64/hr

    The Library is seeking an outgoing, energetic Public Education Specialist with strong interpersonal skills to join the centralized Education and Outreach team. The successful candidate will have a work history that includes extensive experience working with educators, parents, and community partners with shared values and mission. The right candidate for this job will have extensive knowledge of the Texas education system, community partnership development, professional development, presentation design, and best practices for serving the community. They will also be adept at public speaking, comfortable with technology, possess excellent time management and communication skills, and enjoy working with community members of all ages, backgrounds, dispositions, and abilities.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Education, Public Administration, or Social Sciences.
    • At least two years of experience working in a library, education, or related field.
    • Previous experience developing and presenting programs, workshops, and classes.
    • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, reliable transportation during working hours.
    • Ability to work at/travel to various locations.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Education, Public Administration, or Social Sciences
    • Experience working with educators, students, parents, and community organizations.
    • Knowledge of early literacy stages and skills development.
    • Ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish.

    The Public Education Specialist’s job responsibilities include:
    • Conceptualize, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate professional development for educators throughout the Fort Worth community and library system.
    • Design and implement innovative and engaging curricula for parents, guardians, and caregivers in the Fort Worth Community.
    • Develop and sustain partnerships with local community organizations to provide library services and programs.
    • Conduct community outreach, to promote Library materials, programs, and other special events, including processing new and existing library cardholder accounts.
    • Identify informational and educational needs in the community, and plan, develop, and deliver presentations to meet those needs.
    • Review proposals submitted by outside organizations to evaluate whether or not their programs align with the Library’s partnership guidelines and the Library’s Mission Statement.
    • Utilize outcome-based planning and evaluation for education and outreach services.
    • Facilitate presentations by the Library to outside organizations, community groups, and educators.
    • Collect and submit statistical data and prepare reports.
    • Actively support ongoing community initiatives.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Working Conditions and Physical Demand

    While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.     Benefits That Are Well Worth It

    Medical Program

    The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

    The Health Center Plan – Offers employees and their family’s

    primary health care services that are 100% completely free and unlimited. Employees can visit any one of the three City of Fort Worth Employee Health Centers and receive guaranteed same or next day appointments for sick visits. Also, services are available at any one of the five satellite locations that serves employees across the city.

    The Consumer Choice Plan – Is offered to employees at no cost or low monthly premiums to cover eligible dependents and provides the financial benefits of a Health Savings Account (HSA).

    • Preventative services are covered at 100% on both plans.
    • Prescription Drug coverage including mail order pharmacy are also included.

    Vacation

    Eligible for 3 weeks of vacation: After successful completion of probationary period (usually
    6 months), employees may take time off for rest, relaxation, vacation, illness, religious observances, and personal business.

    Holidays

    Available on the first day of employment, the city provides employees with paid holidays, including two personal holidays.

    Wellness Program

    The city’s Healthy Challenge Wellness Program rewards all full-time, benefit-eligible employees on the city’s health insurance. The Healthy Challenge Program utilizes a points system. Participants may earn points throughout the year (Jan. 1-Dec. 15) for completing specific program activities and participants can redeem points at the end of the year for a cash reward. By participating, individuals can earn $150, $200 or $250 by accumulating program points.
