    THE TUSTIN PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT:

    The Tustin Parks and Recreation Department takes pride in creating community through people, parks and programs.     THE POSITION:

    The Tustin Parks and Recreation Department is looking to hire individuals who want to use their talents and creativity to serve their community at various parks, programs, events and facilities for the part-time position of Recreation Leader I/II.

    Given that this is a part-time, at-will, non-benefitted position, hours will be limited to less than 1,000 hours per fiscal year. Employees may be assigned to work year-round or seasonally and hours worked may vary significantly from week to week.

    THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS:

    Application materials will be carefully reviewed to identify candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Those who meet the minimum qualifications for the position will be invited to participate in a one-way recorded video interview. Those who pass the one-way recorded video interview will earn placement on the eligible list, which may be used for current and future vacancies in the job classification.

    This recruitment is conducted on a continuous basis to meet the needs of the City as vacancies occur and may close at any time.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A combination of education, experience, and training that has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is required for entry into the classification. A typical combination includes :

    Education and/or Experience:

    Recreation Leader I :

    None required. Completion of some high school courses is desirable. Paid or volunteer experience working with children or others in a recreational setting is desirable.

    Recreation Leader II :

    Graduation from high school; and one (1) year of experience as a Recreation Leader I.

    Licenses and/or Certificates:

    Recreation Leader I :

    Valid First Aid and CPR certificates are required within six (6) months of employment.

    Recreation Leader II :

    Valid First Aid and CPR certificates are required within six (6) months of employment.

    If assigned to transport passengers, a valid California Class B commercial driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

    Special Requirements:

    Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age by the first day of employment. Some positions may require individuals to be at least eighteen (18) years of age by the first day of employment. Satisfactory results from a background investigation, physical examination and administrative screening. May be required to work extended or irregular hours which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Bilingual skills are desirable.

    DEFERRED COMPENSATION
    In lieu of Social Security, e mployees are required to contribute 5.5% of salary on a pre-tax basis every pay period to an OBRA 457 deferred compensation plan. The City contributes an additional 2%, for a total combined contribution of 7.5%.
