    The Position

    The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Inventory Control Specialist I or II to fill one (1) vacancy in the Sewer Warehouse of the Public Works Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

    Inventory Control Specialist I

    $52,668.00 - $70,656.00 Annually

    Inventory Control Specialist II

    $54,600.00 - $73,212.00 Annually

    The ideal candidate(s) will have experience in operating an inventory management software, maintaining and procuring warehouse inventory in an industrial setting. The top candidate will require attributes such as i.e. organizational skills, attention to detail, computer literacy, analytical skills, supply chain logistics, effective communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills as it pertains to maintaining inventory, procuring, receiving, participating in audits, dealing with vendors and supporting plant staff.

    Additionally, the incumbent will be required to work in in-climate weather and dusty conditions at times. Sit, stand and stoop for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects, operate forklifts, bridge cranes, and like equipment.

    The Inventory Control Specialist I performs both manual and administrative support tasks in the receiving, storing, organizing, and issuing of a variety of materials and supplies.

    The Inventory Control Specialist II oversees, leads, and performs both manual and administrative support tasks in the ordering, receiving, storing, organizing, and issuing of a variety of materials and supplies Citywide. Monitors performance of specialized store operations in central or branch storeroom

    Work Performed

    Inventory Control Specialist I:

    Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Receive, accept, and unpack incoming materials and supplies; move and organize current inventory to make room for new arrivals; monitor placement and organization to ensure all equipment is available and ready for issuance.
    • Check delivery receipts with purchase order, review order details, and evaluate order with quote requests from vendors; perform basic mathematical calculations to ensure the correct items have been received.
    • Check items for soundness and condition; note and report equipment, materials, or supplies that have arrived defective or not working.
    • Assign stock numbers to incoming supplies and materials and place items in assigned location.
    • Issue materials and supplies as requested and keep appropriate records; ensure the appropriate personnel are given equipment and materials in a timely manner.
    • Receive returned items; document reason for return and make the appropriate decisions regarding handling of returned items.
    • Count stock items in filling requests.
    • Operate forklift, crane, and other stockroom equipment; adhere and comply with safety and general operational standards; order all of the fluids, oils, lubricating, Hydraulic, transmission, and antifreeze for heavy equipment used in the Department.
    • Assist in maintaining stock records; perform routine clerical tasks and administrative support for the care and keeping of inventory; assist and support in periodic inventories and stockroom evaluations; ensure the effective and efficient storage and usage of inventory for the department.
    • Operate a vehicle in the pick-up and delivery of supplies and materials.
    • Perform general clean-up of storage facilities; monitor and maintain storeroom to ensure safety and cleanliness.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Inventory Control Specialist II:

    Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Oversee, control, and monitor all incoming materials and supplies; organize current inventory to make room for new arrivals; monitor, delegate, and assign placement and organization to ensure all equipment is available and ready for issuance.
    • Check delivery receipts with purchase order, review order details, and evaluate order with quote requests from vendors; ensure the receipt of correct items and evaluate for condition, shortage, and other discrepancies.
    • Assign stock numbers to incoming supplies and materials and place items in assigned location; check stock items for reorder and prepare requests.
    • Issue materials and supplies as requested and keep appropriate records; ensure the appropriate personnel are given equipment and materials in a timely manner.
    • Assist, support, and provide expertise in maintaining records and in conducting and coordinating reorder of inventories, obtaining quotes for inventories and cycle counts.
    • Operate forklift, crane, and other stockroom equipment; adhere and comply with safety and general operational standards; order all of the fluids, oils, lubricating, Hydraulic, transmission, and antifreeze for heavy equipment used in the Department.
    • Provide administrative and personnel support; oversee completion of work, delegate tasks to ensure efficiency, document work and related reports, and provide training as appropriate.
    • Operate a vehicle in the pick-up and delivery of supplies and materials.
    • Perform general clean-up of storage facilities; monitor and maintain storeroom to ensure safety and cleanliness; operate computer and respond to questions regarding stock items and other inventory.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications

    Recruitment Guidelines:

    Inventory Control Specialist II:
    Education: High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED)
    Experience: Six (6) months of experience in stores or warehouse work

    Inventory Control Specialist II:
    Education: High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED)

    Experience: Three (3) years of experience in store-keeping and inventory work

    For Inventory Control Specialist I and II:
    Licenses and Certifications:
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, appropriate California Class “C” Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
    Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Work is done inside the warehouse and outside and in the field with exposure to faulty devices, chemicals, tools, inclement weather, and potentially hazardous conditions. Employees may interact with staff and/or public and private representatives and will provide professional customer service

    Highly Desirable Qualifications:
    • Experience in operating an inventory management software
    • Experience maintaining and procuring warehouse inventory in an industrial setting
    • Experience operating forklifts, bridge cranes, and like equipment

    The City offers an attractive benefits package, the central provisions of which are as follows:
    • Retirement for Classic Members -For employees hired after 1/1/2013 who are CLASSIC MEMBERS of California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12 and have not been separated from service from such agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2.7 % @ age 55; 3 year final compensation.The required employee contribution is 8%. The City does not participate in Social Security; thus, employees do not bear this additional 6.2% expense.
    • Retirement for New Members - For employees hired 1/1/2013 or later and who ARE NOT a member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) or a reciprocal agency as of 12/31/12, or those who have been separated from a public agency which contracts with CalPERS or a reciprocal agency for six months or more, the retirement benefit shall be 2% at age 62; 3 year final compensation.The required employee contribution is 50% of the normal cost and is subject to change per CalPERS every fiscal year. The City does not participate in Social Security; thus, employees do not bear this additional 6.2% expense.
    • Health Insurance - The City offerssix health insurance plans and contributes up to $1,469 per month for employee and dependent coverage.
    • Dental Insurance - The City provides three dental insurance plans and contributes up to $45 per month.
    • Vision Insurance - The City provides vision coverage through Vision Service Plan (VSP) for employees and their dependents that are enrolled in medical coverage.
    • Life Insurance - The City provides and pays for term life insuranceequal to $100,000. Additional Life Insurance is available and voluntary for employee and eligible dependents (up to $300k).
    • Deferred Compensation - The City contributes $25 a month with a minimum employee contribution of $12.50 per check. Participation in the deferred compensation plan is optional.
    • Leave Benefits - Includes vacation leave, sick leave, bereavement leave, and holiday benefits.
    • Flexible Spending Account - The City offers a Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Plan for optional participation.
    • State Disability Insurance - Automatic coverage administered by the Employee Development Department (EDD) of the State of California
    • Vacation Accrual - 0-4 yrs. = 80hrs, 5-9 yrs. = 120hrs, 10+ yrs. = 160 hrs.
