The Position
Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, in Sparks, NV is recruiting for Mental Health Technicians. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple Mental Health Technician 1 positions underfilling for Mental Health Technician 3s. Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility. Employees work in a psychiatric hospital where they may be exposed to verbal and physical assault by patients and assist in observing patient behavior on an ongoing basis to monitor the effectiveness of treatment plans; assist in documenting progress in patient charts; and assist in reporting significant behavioral and/or medical problems to the interdisciplinary team leader, nurses, or other professional clinical staff. Incumbents participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as assigned; discuss patient behavior and provide input and recommendations on changes to the treatment plan in order to optimize patient care; act as a role model for patients by demonstrating appropriate behavior and applying active listening techniques; establish therapeutic interpersonal relationships with assigned patients through one-on-one interactions in order to accomplish treatment plan goals and provide person-centered, trauma-informed care.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of general work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes CPR certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. First aid certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. In accordance with NAC 284.437, this series may be used to underfill Mental Health Professional positions when recruitment efforts for clinical positions in rural communities have been unsuccessful. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant at the cost of the applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
