Definition and Class Characteristics Interviews will be held the week of November 11, 2024 Ready to be part of an outstanding team? Consider working as a Building Maintenance Specialist! We are looking for someone who is well rounded, possessing strong customer service experience and technical capability. Under supervision, performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, facilities, and related equipment, in one or more of the following trades: facility maintenance, HVAC, electrical-mechanical, electronic systems, and systems controls; and performs related work as required.
This is the journey-level skilled trades' classification. Incumbents perform a variety of skilled journey-level trade work in the maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities and related systems and equipment.
Candidates should have knowledge of:
- Principles, practices, methods and techniques pertaining to one or more of the following trades: facility maintenance, HVAC, electrical-mechanical systems controls
- Safety and safe working practices
- Codes and regulations governing trade area of specialty
Skills in:
- Working at the journey level in one or more of the following trades: facility maintenance, HVAC, electrical, electronic, electrical-mechanical and electronic systems
- Operating tools and equipment of the trade
- Maintaining a clean and comfortable working environment that is continuously affected by weather conditions and equipment failures
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Providing customer service consistent with the department's expectations
- Basic operation of a computer using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
The ideal candidate will have completed the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in one or more of the trades, as evidenced by a certificate of completion in one of the building trades, and two years of experience performing skilled work in one of the trades. One year of additional work experience in the building trades may substitute for specialized training.
In addition, successful candidate may be required to possess, or obtain within six months of appointment, an Environmental Protection Agency Universal Certificate for the repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment. Possession of a valid driver's license within 30 days of hire.
The physical demands and conditions will require the mobility to bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and reach in the course of installation and repair; strength and stamina to lift up to 60 lbs. and/or maneuver heavy tools, equipment and parts, and perform physical work throughout the day; manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools; vision to read schematics and distinguish wiring and parts which may be color-coded; speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone. Work on ladders and in confined spaces. Some accommodations may be made for some physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodations.
