    The Position

    Transportation Planner/Analysts participate in transportation system analysis, a continuing comprehensive and cooperative planning process, research programs or projects, safety programs and/or related functional areas as mandated by, and within the guidelines of, federal, State and local authorities; monitor, develop and implement State and federal funding and programming/planning requirements and ensure compliance with federal funding requirements.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    This position is in Carson City within the Traffic Safety Engineering Division and supports the Nevada Highway Safety Improvement Program. The incumbent will research and prepare statistical analysis required for various data requests from departmental programs, as well as various state, private, and local agencies. Assist with data quality by reviewing Nevada crash data for data. Manage Transportation Planner/Analyst I and II in developing and producing descriptive statistics, graphs, and tables for data publications. Create and provide data to internal and external partners through many applications that include crash reports and web-based maps. Provide data and analysis support to the Traffic Safety Engineering team and other internal and external partners. Data requests include, but are not limited to, major corridors or multiple intersections. Develop and apply knowledge in the areas for crash data, database querying, spatial and other analyses with GIS, and other applicable training as well as completing all required NDOT Training.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, business administration, planning, math, geography, statistics, economics or a related field and three years of professional experience in two or more of the following: overseeing and conducting specific transportation analysis, planning or research programs; developing studies, reports, and master plans; collecting and analyzing data; forecasting trends and developments; and developing alternatives to achieve goals and identify available financing, including one year of experience in a lead capacity; OR one year of experience as a Transportation Planner/Analyst II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Qualifying experience may be substituted for the education required above the high school level on a year for year basis.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
