    The Job

    The Department of Aging and Adult Services/Office of the Public Guardian is recruiting for a Supervising Deputy Public Guardian to supervise and evaluate the activities of Deputy Public Guardians who are responsible for arranging the administration of estates and custodial care of gravely disabled or other incompetent persons appointed by the courts to the Public Guardian.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS

    We offer a competitive salary with bi-annual step increases of approximately 2.5% up to top salary step of $103,313 annually.

    FUTURE SALARY INCREASES
    3% Effective February 2025*
    3% Effective February 2026*


    As an alternative to the traditional benefits package, you may also be eligible to elect the Modified Benefit Option (MBO) that provides an increased base rate of pay ($1.75 above the base rate of pay) with modified benefits.     CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Certification: Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid certification as a Public Guardian as established by the California Association of Public Administrators, Public Guardians, and Public Conservators (CAPAPGPC). Certification must be obtained within four (4) years of hire per Section 2923 of the California Probate Code or the incumbent may be terminated.

    Background Investigation: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, credit check, and/or medical exam, which may include drug and/or TB testing.

    Travel: Travel throughout the State is required. Occasional out-of-state travel is required and applicants must be able to travel by airplane. Incumbents may be required to make provision for transportation and to use personal vehicles (mileage reimbursement is available). A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

    Work Location: Incumbents will be assigned to work at the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) located at 686 E. Mill St. San Bernardino, CA 92415-0647. Office location may change due to space and department operational needs.

    *Salary increases contingent upon Property Related Revenue and/or statewide Proposition 172 Sales Tax Collections performance.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education: A Bachelor's degree in Business/Public Administration, Behavioral/Social Science or a closely related field.

    -AND-

    Experience: (must meet one of the following options)
    Option A: Three (3) years of full-time experience equivalent to a Deputy Public Guardian with the County of San Bernardino. Equivalent experience includes the arrangement for custodial care and administration of estates of gravely disabled or other incompetent persons appointed to the Public Guardian by the courts.

    Option B: Four (4) years of full-time supervisory experience, or experience acting as a lead with demonstrated increasing responsibility, in a legal, fiscal, or law enforcement setting.

    Desired Qualifications

    Certification as a Public Guardian as established by CAPAGPC is desirable. The ideal candidate will have experience collaborating with law enforcement agencies and the legal/court system.
