    The Position

    Transportation Technicians perform a variety of technical duties related to traffic and roadway characteristics on State highways; install traffic monitoring devices; perform minor repairs on traffic control and monitoring equipment, and compile and maintain detailed records and information.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This position is located in Carson City within the Planning Division-Traffic Information Section. Under direct supervision, incumbents receive training in the performance of a variety of technical duties in the office and in the field. Duties are assigned through specific instructions and reviewed for technical accuracy and may include data collection, coding, and tabulation for traffic volume counting, vehicle classification, speed, occupancy, size, and weight monitoring, and installation of recording equipment in roadways and operation of recording equipment. Travel will be required up to 75% of the time throughout Northern and Rural Nevada with overnight hotel stays.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of technical experience in collecting and recording data related to traffic and/or roadways; OR one year of experience as a Transportation Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. As a condition of employment, pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances. Additional Position Criteria This position requires an applicant to be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required. This position requires travel up to 75% of the time throughout Northern and Rural Nevada with overnight stays. This position requires the incumbent to work in inclement weather. This position requires the incumbent to install/remove traffic information equipment on the road in high-traffic areas. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
