    The Position

    Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. This position is located within District I, Las Vegas which may require travel up to 25% of the time. Incumbent provides key support to the Assistant District Engineer by overseeing multiple crews maintaining more than 1400 lane miles.

    This includes establishing priorities for the annual work program; conferring with highway maintenance and materials/equipment needs; reviewing maintenance management system reports, and work program reports; overseeing buildings and grounds; ensuring adequate staffing of maintenance crews; ensuring ability of the crews to handle emergency situations; overseeing safety programs for assigned areas; reviewing and developing equipment specifications; developing work plans and budgets as it applies to program objectives in accordance with State and federal requirements; observing projects in progress, and budgeting for the contract services of rest areas and inmate labor. This position is also responsible for administering, evaluating, and directing surrounding stations maintenance and equipment operations to ensure achievement of the Department's.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of supervisory experience that included overseeing and coordinating highway maintenance activities for an assigned geographical territory such as planning, scheduling and coordinating district priorities and major betterment projects; monitoring work in progress; selecting sites for material storage; arranging for material deliveries and availability for specialized equipment; and interpreting and implementing a variety of federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to highway maintenance and safety; OR two years of experience as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor II or a Maintenance Management Coordinator in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements As a condition of employment, pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
