The Position
Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
Under administrative supervision, incumbents supervise and direct the activities of lower-level Developmental Specialists and other related professional, paraprofessional and support staff to implement program activities and ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures in assigned program areas; ensure programs meet applicable licensing standards; prepare budget recommendations; and perform duties described in the series concept as required. Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for a full time Developmental Specialist 4 position in Carson City, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the following program: Nevada Early Intervention Services (NEIS).
This role will oversee staff in the Early Intervention Program that works with children (birth to age three) who have disabilities or developmental delays so as to ensure adherence to all federal laws, deadlines, and relevant rules and regulations. Incumbents must complete reports, statistical data, and fiscal information; provide administrative leadership in line with protocols; assist in developing and execution of policies and procedures; perform employee evaluations and direct supervision; and train and support staff. Applicants who are without an Endorsement License in Early Childhood Special Education are required to get the endorsement at their own expense or attend the Professional Development Center for a free alternative certification within the initial three years of work. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field and three years of professional experience providing developmental, special education, intervention, treatment-oriented, child/adult care, and/or instructional guidance services for individuals who have or may be at risk for developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions; OR one year of experience as a Developmental Specialist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education at or above a Bachelor's degree and experience as described above. Special Requirements Some positions must obtain an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education issued by the Nevada Department of Education or a comparable certification issued by the Nevada Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C office within three years of appointment to this series or a comparable certification. (This license requirement applies only to those positions directly involved with children from birth to eight years of age with developmental delays.) Some positions must meet federal guidelines for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional designation at the time of appointment. Some positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
