    Main Street Children's Museum offers fun, educational activities for ages 0-6. Make believe in the pumpkin house, climb to the tip-top of the tree house, and sail on the magic ship. Enjoy memory-making family experiences and engage your young child in creative, developmental play. Main Street Children's Museum is inspired by the artwork of American illustrator Vernon Grant, who lived and worked in Rock Hill.

    About our opportunity

    We invite you to apply to join our team as a part-time (28 hours per week) Early Childhood Educator with Main Street Children's Museum. The purpose of this position is to develop and implement programs that support the mission of the Main Street Children's Museum. Will also maintain exhibit presence and models creative play for visitors while spending a great deal of time on the exhibit floor interacting with visitors.

    Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 28 hours per week, schedule varies based on operational needs. Includes occasional Sunday hours as this position also helps cover Sunday birthday parties as needed.

    Projected Hiring Range: $17.45 - $21.81 an hour. Compensation is determined based on qualifications.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Makes recommendations to the Education Program Manager concerning program development and assists in implementing a continuity of weekly program offerings throughout the year; recommends changes or new programs and promotes participation in other CHM programs; keeps an inventory of needed supplies and manipulatives; prices out and recommends supply and manipulative purchase recommendations to Education Program Manager.
    • Maintains a sanitary and safe environment for visitors to play, learn, interact and explore.
    • Applies best practices to combine specific learning objectives with play in informal learning environments that are developmentally appropriate for infants, toddlers and children; represents the needs and interests of young children, their motivation to learn, and empowers them through contact and direct experience with exhibits.
    • Employs front end, formative, and summative evaluation selectively in program development and delivery.
    • Implements opening/closing procedures for museum exhibits. Covers the front desk as needed, including checking in guest, selling merchandise, answering phones, handling registration, and membership sales.
    • Manages and executes birthday parties, including set up, greeting host family and guests, organizing and implementing rules and policies, and clean up.
    • Performs related work as assigned.


    About you

    Education and Experience Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
    • Two (2) years of experience in early childhood education or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    Special Certifications and Licenses:
    • Current teaching certification preferred
    • CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.

    Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
    • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

    Essential Safety Functions:
    It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with established policies, procedures and safe work practices.     Every manager/supervisor is responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations. In addition, they are responsible for ensuring that a safe work environment is maintained, safe work practices are followed and employees are properly trained.

    A regular part-time employee is an employee, who has completed six months of satisfactory service, works less than 30 hours per week and by agreement with York County is not a temporary position but fills a regular part-time position.

    Annual Leave
    Probationary and part-time county employees that work at least 20 hours per week accrue annual leave with pay. Employees in their new hire six (6) month probationary period shall not be able to use annual leave until they become regular county employees. Employees who are separating from county service shall be paid for all accrued, unused annual leave up to 360 hours provided they give York County as the employer the proper notice as required. Employees in their six (6) month New-Hire probationary period who are terminated or separated from employment shall not be paid for accrued annual leave. The maximum amount of annual leave carried into each calendar year is 360 hours.

    Earning Rate for Part-Time Employees
    Part-time employees who are scheduled to work twenty (20) to twenty-nine (29) hours per week will earn 4.0 hours of annual leave for each month of service during a twelve month period

    Sick Leave
    Part-time and probationary county employees may be entitled to earn sick leave with pay. Temporary employees will not accrue sick leave time. Employees may accrue up to 1,440 hours of sick leave. Upon termination of employment with the County, employees may not be reimbursed for any unused sick leave. When a paid holiday occurs while an employee is on sick leave with pay, the day may not be charged as sick leave.

    Earning Rate of Sick Leave
    Part-time employees that work twenty (20) to twenty-nine (29) hours per week earn paid sick leave at a rate of 4 hours per month. Part-time employees who work less than twenty (20) hours per week will not earn sick leave.

    Paid Holiday’s for regular part-time employees who work more than 20 hours per week.
    • Part-time employees who work less than 20 hours per week will not earn sick leave. The following days may be observed as paid holidays for York County Employees:

    June:Juneteenth Day

    Training:
    Quality training and educational programs are available at various times for county employees in order to support workforce development that is consistent with organizational objectives. Training topics may include driver training, CPR/first aid, communication, supervisor training, workplace violence, substance abuse, and various computer related classes.
