    Description:

    Join the City of Palo Alto's dynamic team at Cubberley Community Center as an Event Technician! As an Event Technician, you'll be the key liaison between building users and the stage crew, supervising and training both volunteer and professional stagehands. You'll bring your production and stage management expertise to the table, working with users of all skill levels while ensuring facility safety protocols are followed.

    We're seeking individuals with outstanding interpersonal skills, a strong customer service orientation, and the ability to make independent, sound judgments. Additionally, candidates who have experience in the technical operations of a facility is a must, along with familiarity with the operation and maintenance of various theatrical lighting instruments, and proficiency in programming and operating theatrical lighting consoles.     This position is a limited hourly position, limited to a maximum of 415 hours per fiscal year.

    Essential Duties:

    Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Oversee the production standards for various performance types, including classical music, dance, theater, and popular music.
    • Apply standard theatrical construction techniques such as building flats, platforms, wagons, soft goods, and rigging.
    • Evaluate the safety of scenery during load-in processes.
    • Manage large, permanent theatrical lighting systems, including computer light boards.
    • Handle sound recording playback and reinforcement.
    • Teach safe technical operation of all systems to a diverse range of users, including children and adults.
    • Assess the technical needs of building users and adjust working methods based on their production background.
    • Perform extensive work in theatrical lighting, including equipment repair, operation of various light boards and instruments, installation, and maintenance.
    • Operate and maintain theatrical sound systems and stage management when needed.
    • Deliver excellent customer service and make independent, sound judgments.
    • Oversee the technical operations of the facility, ensuring all systems are functioning correctly.
    • Maintain and operate various theatrical lighting instruments, with proficiency in programming and operating lighting consoles.
    • Foster a positive, flexible, and humorous work environment to help create unforgettable events.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities which would typically be acquired through:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Preferred qualifications include college coursework in Fine Arts or technical theatre! If you’ve got two years of hands-on technical experience in a busy, multi-use performing arts center, we want to hear from you!


    Supplemental Information:

    Working Conditions:This position requires a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as assigned. Candidates must be capable of climbing vertical ladders and lifting and carrying heavy objects.
