    California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics . Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Since its founding in 1938, Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive, relevant, and values diverse perspectives and experiences.     The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg.     Student Population. Cal Poly Pomona is the number one polytechnic university in the nation for student diversity and economic mobility. In Fall 2023, Cal Poly Pomona served more than 24,000 students and close to 2,000 graduate students, mostly residents of California. Over half of Cal Poly Pomona students are first-generation college students, 70% receive financial aid, and 42% are low-income students.     College of Science: The College’s mission is to educate, mentor, and inspire students through scientific inquiry and hands-on learning. It offers 15 undergraduate degree programs and six Master’s degrees across seven academic departments that include: Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geological Sciences, Kinesiology & Health Promotion, Mathematics & Statistics, and Physics & Astronomy. Our Center for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (CEMaST) supports K-16 education locally and nationally to increase STEM success and participation for all. The College of Science has approximately 150 full-time faculty, 40 staff, and 4,400 active majors. Our commitment to the teacher-scholar model results in our college being the largest recipient of extramural grant funding on campus.     Department of Mathematics and Statistics: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has over 30 full-time faculty and offers a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with two options: pure mathematics/secondary teaching and applied mathematics/statistics. We also offer a master’s program with two degrees: one degree with emphases in mathematics education and pure mathematics; and a second degree with options in applied mathematics and statistics. The department currently has over 350 undergraduate major students, over 50 graduate students, and serves over 5,000 students each semester.

    Position description: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor with expertise in applied probability, stochastic processes, or related areas. The faculty member in this position will teach mathematics and/or statistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. It is expected that the new faculty member will engage in scholarly research or grant activity and serve on department, college, and university committees. They also will have the chance to mentor undergraduate research and graduate student master’s thesis projects.

    Minimum requirements include:
    • A PhD in mathematics, statistics, or related field (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.)
    • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and equity. Evidence should be provided in a Student Success Statement that responds to the prompt above - “Inclusive Excellence and Student Success”
    • University or college teaching experience, for instance as a lead instructor, teaching assistant, or similar role
    • Evidence of ongoing or potential scholarly research in the fields of applied probability, stochastic processes, or related areas.

    • Evidence of, or potential for, teaching upper division and graduate mathematics or statistics classes
    • Evidence of, or potential for, excellence in conducting scholarly research activities
    • Evidence of, or potential for, directing Master’s thesis students or mentoring undergraduate student research
    • Evidence of, or potential for, contributing to department governance and service
    • Evidence of commitment to equity, inclusion, and access for all students in the mathematical community
