    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Director of Business and Administrative Services and under the guidance of the Central Stores and Inventory Coordinator, the Warehouse Worker maintains the department's inventory of goods, materials, supplies, and equipment for University facility upkeep. Supporting Facilities Development & Operations, the role involves handling the delivery, receipt, check-in, storage, inventory, and issuance of items needed by department personnel.

    Key functions include tracking orders, receiving and checking in deliveries, and preparing necessary forms or reports for inventory management. Using electronic systems, the Warehouse Worker verifies received goods against invoices or bills of lading for accuracy, condition, and quantity, and resolves any issues, including managing returns. Additional duties involve stocking, maintaining inventory, and conducting audits as required.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Unload and/or unpack a wide variety of incoming material including office supplies, furniture, biological products, agricultural supplies, building materials, and industrial and mechanical equipment and employ special handling techniques when required for transport of fragile, toxic, inflammable, radioactive, or short shelf life goods
    • Check incoming material against invoices or bills of lading to verify correctness, condition, and quantity of items received and correct any problems which arise
    • Prepare items for delivery by palletizing, banding, labeling, or assembling with hand tools
    • Stock and restock shelves, bins or other storage facilities
    • Take physical inventories and keep perpetual inventory records of quantities of stock on hand
    • Maintain a safe environment in the warehouse areas or other storage areas as well as working locations. Maintain clean work areas, tools, and equipment
    • Operate powered materials handling equipment, utilize special materials handling techniques, and perform heavy manual labor for a significant portion of the work time
    • Record work efforts in detail within computerized recordkeeping systems and, where directed, on log sheets, and keep accurate records so as to ensure an appropriate level of documentation regarding actions taken to complete assignments
    • Use computer for communicating, researching parts and specifications, coordinating, documenting work details, and recording time log
    • Disable and clearly identify (lock out and tag out) unsafe equipment, and immediately notify appropriate personnel
    • Report problems and needed repairs to supervisor to be documented and scheduled
    • Operate utility cart, passenger vehicle, scissor lift, forklift, and other equipment, as certified, to access, repair, and transport personnel, equipment and materials
    • Unlock and secure facility areas to access equipment, items to be repaired and/or maintained. Maintain security at all warehouse and other facilities
    • Consult, coordinate with, and work with FD&O units and personnel, as needed, to successfully support their work efforts
    • Respond promptly to, and assist with urgent needs in order to prevent injury, damage or further incident
    • Attend and participate in departmental meetings, trainings and functions


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Working knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment used in receiving, storing, packing, and shipping materials and supplies
    • General knowledge of methods of taking inventories and maintaining inventory records
    • Ability to match names and numbers quickly and accurately
    • Ability to operate powered materials handling equipment
    • Ability to apply safe methods of moving heavy supplies and equipment and perform manual labor
    • Ability to operate all applicable tools and equipment necessary to perform the assigned work
    • Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and computerized record-keeping systems, and to keep simple records and make simple reports
    • Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations
    • Ability to use judgment in performing assigned duties
    • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position, and to perform simple mathematical calculations as required by the position
    • Ability to conduct work assignments based on operational priorities as defined by the appropriate administrator and/or warehouse operating guidelines with a focus on efficiently performing duties required to complete assignments successfully and within given deadlines


    Required Qualifications
    • Possession of a valid California Driver’s license and record that allows for the operation of assigned motorized vehicles
    • Must participate in all OSHA required physicals and examinations
    • One year of experience working in a centralized Mailroom/Receiving where the receipt, storage or issuance of material is performed
    • Direct experience in operating forklift trucks or similar power-operated material handling equipment


    License

    A valid driver's license is required for this position. Out of state candidates selected for the position must obtain a State of California driver's license within 10 days of hire in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.

    Once hired the employee must successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for California State University campuses.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent education
    • Three years’ experience in a warehouse environment for a large organization
    • Two years’ experience in the operation of a forklift
    • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management and/or inventory systems
    • Familiarity with standard business software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Experience working within a University setting


    Compensation

    Classification: Warehouse Worker
    Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,680/month - $4,208/month
    CSU Salary Range: $3,680/month - $5,669/month
