    FACULTY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

    University Libraries

    Librarian Pool Position

POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 1-2 part-time (non-tenure track) positions with emphasis in reference and instruction. Science background desirable.

THE DEPARTMENT: The University Libraries consist of the main Hayward campus library in the new CORE building, a smaller Concord campus library, and a robust online presence. The Libraries provide an evidence-based Information Studies Program that supports students’ development of a critical consciousness about the information universe. Our program is based on the belief that the Library serves our academic community in formal and informal ways, supporting learning in specific academic disciplines and support for lifelong learning. We embrace our role in student success via instructional efforts such as our department’s credit courses, course-integrated instruction in other departments, standalone workshops, and one-on-one consultations on and off the Information Desk. We work collegially with students and faculty to meet not only their information needs, but also to foster a culture of critical information literacy: one that values being conscious of how knowledge is created, best practices for research, the social and political implications of information access and use, and the importance of active participation in the scholarly conversation.

    Quick Library Facts:
    • Library Staffing: approximately 13 full-time equivalent faculty members, 17 staff members, and many student assistants.
    • Collections: The library holds print and online collections focused on meeting students' needs, and we have robust open initiatives and programs .
    • Budget: The annual library budget is about $3.5 million.
    • Building: The new CORE library building was built to comply with the LEED gold standard requirements.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Librarian will focus on facilitating students’ experience with the Library’s online and physical offerings to support student success and belonging, including first year students, new transfer students, first generation college students, and students from underserved communities at Cal State East Bay.

This position has an emphasis on supporting our hybrid reference model, including providing evening and weekend chat/email reference coverage, and in-person or virtual research consultations; supervising the Information Desk and student staff; serving on an interim basis as a liaison to campus departments (Nursing, Psychology, Geology, Earth & Environmental Science, and Engineering), especially for course-integrated instruction and collection development; planning and creating asynchronous instructional content for credit courses, other course-integrated instruction, LibGuides, and/or workshops; planning and creating outreach and marketing materials and promotional campaigns for library services and resources; and other duties as assigned.

Please note that the position may require evening and weekend duties on the Hayward campus of Cal State East Bay and/or virtually.
