    The Job

    The Department of Public Health is recruiting for Public Health Lead Dietitians* who will assess, plan, administer, evaluate and train in nutrition related activities in a public health and/or clinical setting. Lead Dietitians provide nutrition care and services to populations and individuals at each stage of life and for a range of clinical and socioeconomic conditions. Lead Dietitians may perform nutrition assessments, physician ordered consultations, formulate specialized diets, and instruct/educate on appropriate dietary practices. Additionally, Lead Dietitians may coordinate and provide technical guidance and oversight of activities, special projects, and programs to meet defined public health measures including monitoring nutrition policy, procedures, protocols, quality improvement systems and contract deliverables to ensure consistency, effectiveness, and compliance. Lead Dietitians may assist the Supervising Dietitian and/or Program Coordinator by participating in the hiring process, assigning and reviewing work, and providing staff development of Dietitians and support staff including input on work performance evaluations.

    The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies within t he Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program and Nutrition and Wellness Services .

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Travel/Driver License:
    Incumbents may be required to travel throughout the County to work in multiple offices within a specified region, such as the High Desert (e.g., Victorville, Barstow), Low Desert (e.g., 29 Palms, Yucca Valley), and surrounding San Bernardino areas. Employees may be required to make provision for transportation; mileage reimbursement is available . At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.
    Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.
    Visa Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require Visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.

    Telework Program: The County allows for the use of telework to County employees where business needs permit to efficiently serve the community and maintain employee productivity during public health emergencies. Candidates, upon successful completion of a probationary period, may potentially have the option to telework based on their assignment.

    Minimum Requirements

    Registration: Must possess and maintain current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian.

    -AND-

    Experience: One (1) year of Registered Dietitian experience in nutrition education and individual counseling services within a public health and/or clinical setting.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and teambuilding skills, be a forward thinker and able to exercise sound judgement. Strong project management skills are desired.
