    The Position

    Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Professional Engineer in Roadway Design will be a direct-report to each Principal Design Engineer. They will specialize in geometric design, capacity project design, and 3D CADD modeling. They will also assist in administering consultant-designed projects, provide technical review on consultant-designed projects, and provide technical review for Feasibility Studies, NEPA studies, and major projects by other Metropolitan Public Organizations (MPOs). This position will be the lead designer on in-house capacity projects. Incumbent will guide and train team members in the department new design methods with aspects concerning roadway design projects and assist with training using MicroStation and Inroads tools. Provide technical engineering assistance to staff and various committees and groups. Assist in administering consultant-designed projects, provide technical review on consultant-designed projects, and provide technical review for Feasibility Studies, NEPA studies, and major projects by other Metropolitan Public Organizations (MPOs). Review plans, specifications, and details for quantity accuracy, design criteria compliance, adherence to drafting standards, plan structure. Perform technical engineering calculations and apply engineering theory/principles. Employing engineering judgment is extremely important. Assigned projects are in substantial compliance with design policies as set forth through its policy memos, the design manual, and other adopted references. Incumbent will represent the Department and the Roadway Design Division on assigned projects. Work with internal management and external contacts, executives, officials and regulatory representatives, generally to solve problems involving a conflict requiring interpretation and application of policy or to negotiate solutions to major and/or controversial issues and ensure solutions fall within policy guidelines.

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) Special Notes A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment. The practice of engineering does not include land surveying or the work ordinarily performed by persons who operate or maintain machinery or equipment. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
