    The County of Los Angeles is currently offering up to 20% bonus for full-time Pharmacy Technician positions hired by Correctional Health Services and working on-site in a designated facility to meet critical healthcare needs for the uniquely underserved jail population.

    COVID-19 VACCINATION MANDATE:

    condition of employment. Successful candidates for this position will be required
    to submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or request an exemption for
    qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process. Candidates
    should not present proof of vaccination until instructed to do so by the hiring
    department.

    DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES:
    The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. DHS operates as an integrated health system, operating 25 health centers and 4 acute care hospitals, in addition to providing health care to youth in the juvenile justice system and inmates in the LA County jails. Across the network of DHS’ directly operated clinical sites and through partnerships with community-based clinics, DHS cares for about 800,000 unique patients each year, employs over 22,000 staff, and has an annual operating budget of 6.9 billion dollars.

    Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition, to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County’s 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings, to supportive housing.

    DEFINITION:
    Performs a variety of technical and support pharmacy services in a hospital pharmacy, licensed outpatient pharmacy, and/or direct patient care setting under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Identifying specific goals and/or tasks and plans accordingly to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work in a accurate and timely manner
    • Understanding written/electronic medication chart orders, decipher prescription or drug orders sentences and verify orders received
    • Use of logic, reason, and reviewed information to identify strengths and weaknesses to create and evaluate viable options and implement solutions
    • Oral or written competency to convey information effectively to patients, coworkers, supervisors and other healthcare professionals
    • Comfortable with repetitive work relating to administrative and clerical procedures such as data entry, managing electronic files and records, and other pharmacy policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of arithmetic; being able to count and verify inventory, measure amount of drugs or solutions and determine appropriate dosages
    • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions are appropriate, and not interrupting a inappropriate times
    • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, supervisors and other healthcare professionals
    • Familiarity with the information (Insurance billing codes and coverage, claim adjudication, drug names, and medical terminology), equipment (Pharmacy Automation Units- Kirby, Parata and Pyxis), and techniques needed to appropriately dispense, mix and fill pharmaceuticals. Includes deciphering, verifying and processing prescriptions and/or drug orders in order to provide quality patient care
    • Consistent use of computers to enter data, process/maintain patient information and prescription data, and generate prescription labels

    Selection Requirements
    Certification as a Pharmacy Technician issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)* and a valid license to practice as a Certified Pharmacy Technician by the California State Board of Pharmacy

    License:
    A current, valid license to practice as a Pharmacy Technician issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.**


    All required licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted or your application will not be accepted

    A valid California Class "C" Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Physical Class III - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    Examination Content
    This examination will consist of a written examination covering Mathematical Computations, Pharmaceutical Calculations, and Basic Comprehensive Pharmacy Practices weighted 100%.

    CANDIDATES MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE REGISTER.

    THE WRITTEN TEST IS NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

    Eligibility Information
    The names of candidates receiving a passing grade on the examination will be added to the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.

    No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

    Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
