    Salary:

    Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
    Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
    Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,825 - $14,523 per month
    Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $8,593 - $15,211 per month

    Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. See the Faculty Salaries At-a-Glance guide for more information.

    Position Summary:

    The Languages and Cultures Department in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts is collecting application materials for a pool of lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2024-25 academic year. We have anticipated needs in intermediate-level Spanish for Healthcare and Spanish for Business as well as graduate-level courses in second/foreign language pedagogy, including Teaching Second Language Writing, Technology in Language Teaching, and Second/Foreign Language Teaching Methodologies for Intermediate and Heritage Learners. The department offers courses in diverse programs, as noted below in the department description. We are primarily seeking instructors to teach in person. Appointments from the lecturer pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    The minimum education requirement for a lecturer appointment is a Master of Arts in a related field for undergraduate courses and a PhD in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, or a related field for graduate courses. For positions in teaching a language, candidates must provide evidence of advanced proficiency in the language to be taught and a demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use communicative teaching methodologies.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in the area of specific need and evidence of effective teaching. Even for positions that are not language teaching assignments, bilingual candidates will be given preference.

    Responsibilities:

    Lecturer positions in the department carry responsibilities in the areas of teaching lower and upper division undergraduate courses and some graduate courses. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

    The Department:

    The Department of Languages and Cultures offers majors and minors in Spanish (including a pre-credential Spanish BA), German, Asian Studies, and Latin American Studies, and minors in Japanese, French, Italian, European Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and African Studies. The Department also offers a Master of Arts in Language Teaching and a Graduate TESOL Certificate.
