Clinic Practitioner Temporary-Truckee Office

Definition and Class Characteristics Come join our dynamic, professional team committed to keeping Nevada County's residents safe and healthy! The Temporary Nurse Practitioner position provides clinic coverage Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays as needed (per diem). Responsibilities include performing gynecological examinations and procedures, STI screening and treatment, family planning counseling and guidance. The ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish in addition to English would be an asset in this position, but is not required. You would be working with people who not only enjoy the work that they do, but also enjoy the camaraderie of an amazing team. Under the immediate supervision of the Director of Public Health Nursing, organizes, directs and provides a spectrum of primary health care and other clinical services for clients in a general or specialized health clinic;  works collaboratively with the Public Health Officer in the formulation and implementation of selected policies, standardized procedures, and professional protocols related to assigned functions; oversees, directs and supervises the day-to-day operations of health care delivery; and performs related work as required. This classification combines the professions of Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant. Incumbents may be assigned to different areas of specialty, consistent with their academic and clinical training. Incumbents provide health care services and perform clinical procedures requiring possession of advanced knowledge and skills and the exercise of a high degree of clinical judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients. Medical direction is received from a licensed physician, and administrative direction from a program manager and director.   This is a broad classification encompassing a variety of specialized knowledge and advanced practice skill levels. More experienced incumbents may provide training and direction to less experienced employees and/or contract or temporary employees.   This class is distinguished from the Registered Nurse, Public Health Nurse and Behavioral Health Nurse classes in that this class is licensed to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures which are beyond the scope of the Registered Nurse license or the Public Health Nurse certificate.  It is further distinguished by its operational responsibilities over assigned areas.    Examples of Duties Essential: Organizes, directs and provides health care services in a general or specialized health clinic, such as, but not limited to, Family Planning, Adult, and/or Pediatric Assists the Public Health Officer and Director of Nursing in formulating and implementing program policies, procedures and protocols; provides health care services in compliance with program regulations and requirements Serves as clinical liaison to and coordinates clinic services with other community health and social services; facilitates referrals Provides direction concerning the medical management of clients to nursing and other treatment team members; may demonstrate procedures and act as an advisor Assesses client health by obtaining medical/health history, performing physical examinations, and initiating appropriate diagnostic and screening tests; evaluates findings and results and prescribes medical treatment; refers complex or emergent cases as appropriate Performs gynecological examinations, procedures and screening services to women to identify any abnormal conditions, and takes appropriate follow-up action; provides family planning counseling and guidance to clients including selection of appropriate contraceptive devices, fitting and placing those devices, prescribing of appropriate contraceptives and treatment for disease processes Performs routine procedures in area of specialization, as authorized by physician and in accordance with County and State protocols and regulations; may perform more complex examinations and procedures, such as sexual assault exams or colposcopies, consistent with training, skills and regulations Maintains accurate records of assessments, evaluations, treatments and follow-ups Teaches and counsels individuals, families and groups regarding health mainte­nance in area of specialization Evaluates needs and develops and presents community education and in-service training programs Important: Attends a variety of internal and external meetings and conferences Knowledge and Skills Required Knowledge of: Advanced nursing principles, practices, methods and techniques Principles, practices and procedures used in the detection, diagnosis, treatment and documentation of health problems within the area of specialty Pharmacology relevant to area of specialty, including indications, reactions, interac­tions and contraindications Laws, rules, regulations, protocols and requirements pertinent to the practice of nursing and the area of specialty Safety and infection control practices and procedures Counseling and interviewing techniques Environmental, sociological and psychological problems related to medical care within the area of specialty Principles and practices of health promotion and disease prevention and control Community medical and social agencies and resources   Skill in: Organizing and directing health care clinics Understanding, interpreting and applying laws, regulations, program require­ments, policies and protocols Conducting complete physical and/or psychosocial assessments of clients, developing and implementing treatment plans, and making appropriate referrals Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures specific to area of assignment Evaluating findings and results, determining deviations from normal, and prescribing appropriate measures Applying teaching principles and providing education and counseling Providing health care services to dysfunctional, stressed and/or uncooperative clients Exercising sound independent judgment within scope of authority and practice Preparing and maintaining organized, detailed and accurate medical records Collaborating with other members of the health care team on an ongoing basis Demonstrating sensitivity to the effects of culture, ethnicity, and socioeconom­ic background on health issues Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Education and Experience Required REQUIRED DOCUMENTS LISTED HERE MUST BE SUBMITTED AT TIME OF APPLICATION. THESE INCLUDE: COPIES OF DEGREES, TRANSCRIPTS, CERTIFICATES  AND/OR LICENSES .
