Tentative Exam Schedule: Tentative Written Exam: June 22, 2023 (additional dates might be added depending on the number of candidates that need to test) Tentative Oral Exam: Week of July 12 - July 16, 2023 Typical Duties Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Under general supervision: • Performs skilled work inspecting sanitary sewer mains, lateral and manholes • Operates video inspection equipment and uses associated software to perform and document inspections • Deploys televising equipment and conducts the inspection by directing the movement of the unit through the sewer system and adjusting the camera to diagnose problems • Takes appropriate video recordings and photographs • Maintains televising equipment by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating and performing minor repairs to keep equipment in good operating condition • Ensures that equipment is stored in a safe and proper manner • Maintains a supply of replacement parts and supplies required to conduct inspections • Identifies and assigns appropriate ratings of defects consistent with Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program (PACP) methodology • Coordinates work with other departments, division, sections, utilities, and customers • Reviews construction drawings, blueprints, and utility plans • Maintains records and generates reports documenting inspections performed and assesses the condition of the facilities inspected • Sets up, maintains and removes appropriate traffic control for work on City streets • Ensures compliance with all City inspection requirements • Certifies the acceptability of each sanitary sewer repair or replacement job upon its completion • Verifies location of mapped facilities and assists in revisiting utility maps • May coordinate points of City facilities using a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) • Uses handheld devices to manage, document and schedule daily work • Works closely with Sewer Maintenance Crews to schedule work • May assist in the training of personnel as assigned • Performs other related duties, as assigned Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and • Two (2) years of wastewater systems installation and maintenance experience, including at least one (1) year at a level equivalent to Water & Sewer Maintenance Worker II LICENSES • A valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment • Possession of a valid Class A or B California Commercial driver’s license is highly desirable CERTIFICATES The following are required at time of application and for the duration of employment: • A valid Water Distribution System Operator Certificate (Grade D-1 or above) issued by the California Department of Public Health; and • A valid Collection System Maintenance Certificate (Grade 1 or above) issued by the California Water Environment Association The following is required within six months of appointment and for the duration of employment: • Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program (PACP) certification issued by National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASCO) The following is required within one year of appointment and for the duration of employment: • Collection System Maintenance Certificate (Grade 2 or above) OTHER REQUIREMENTS • May be required to carry and use a hand-held GPS, City-issued radio or cell phone and/or other electronic communications device during working hours • May be required to work weekends, special shifts, unusual hours, including night and swing shifts in the performance of duties and emergency situations, and be available on an “on call” basis • Incumbents with a Class A or B commercial driver’s license may be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing as mandated by federal regulations • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job assignment Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee admittance into the examination process.
