Job Summary The purpose of this position is to operate various types of equipment in order to maintain the City's sidewalks and streets. An equipment operator in streets may work in any one of these key areas: Asphalt Crew , Drainage Crew or with the Concrete Crew based on experience and ability. THE POSITION THIS POSITION IS IN THE DRAINAGE COLLECTION DIVISION To perform skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution, wastewater collection, and storm drainage systems; and to provide lead guidance and direction to the work of a water, wastewater, and drainage field crew. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the advanced-journey level classification. Positions in this class are responsible for lead supervision and safety of a water, wastewater, and drainage field crew, in addition to the more complex and difficult construction, repair, and maintenance tasks in the water, wastewater, and drainage areas. This class is distinguished from the entry level classification in the Utilities Operations and Maintenance Serviceworker series because it is responsible for lead direction and supervision but does not discipline; it is also distinguished from the next higher-level classification, which is supervisory.
