GENERAL JOB FUNCTION This recruitment is to establish a hiring eligibility list of qualified candidates to fillfuture vacanciesas atemporary Water Meter Technician.The list will be in effect for up to six months with possible extensions. Accordingly, candidates interested in employment with the Contra Costa Water District in the temporary Meter Technician classification for up to the next 12 months should complete the required application and supplemental questionnaire. Please be advised that temporary employees are employed on an hourly basis with no benefits other than paid sick leave. The actual number of hours that you may work is dependent upon the business needs of the District but will not exceed six months of employment. There is no minimum number of hours that you will work. THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT ONLY. Under general supervision, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts meters in the shop and field. Exclusive shop or field work may be required due to workload; however, normal duties are comprised of both shop and field work. Work includes repairs of 5/8" meters through 6-inch meters and larger. Repairs and tests both mechanical drive and magnetic drive, compound and turbine meters. Requires the disassembling, cleaning, repairing or replacing of working parts and reassembling and testing for accuracy. Minor repairs may include but not be limited to: disassembly of meters; exchange of registers and dials; replacement of broken or clouded meter glasses; replacement of broken reading lids and box covers. The Meter Technician works closely with the Sr. Meter Technician in providing assistance in all facets of meter repair. Incumbents in this classification are trained to repair, clean, test and adjust all types of water meters. Individuals must be able to perform strenuous physical labor tasks. EXPERIENCE: One year of work experience in a position requiring mechanical aptitudes and abilities. Familiarity with the operation and use of hand tools.
